Australian rock star Ignatius Jones has died at the age of 66.

The Jimmy and the Boys frontman died Tuesday after a brief illness at his home in the Philippines, leaving behind a legacy that spans several decades in the arts industry.

She is survived by her husband, Novy Berber, her mother, Margot Martin, her sisters Rocío and Mónica, and her brother Luis Miguel.

Born in Manila in 1957, Jones was known as the lead vocalist of the shock rock band Jimmy And The Boys.

The band had several hits throughout the 1970s, including They Won’t Let My Girlfriend Talk to Me and I’m Not Like Everybody Else.

He later joined the swing band Pardon Me Boys in the mid-1980s with his sister, former Play School host Mónica Trápaga.

Jones worked as an events director in his later years, where he collaborated on several major events, including the opening and closing ceremonies of the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics and the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games.

He also acted as artistic director of the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade from 2011 to 2015 and creative director of Vivid Sydney from 2011 to 2019.

Queen Elizabeth II awarded him an Order of Australia as part of the Australia Day Honors in 2019 for his contribution to entertainment and literature.

Jones married her long-time partner, Novy Berber, a Filipino-Australian choreographer, in October 2018.

His sister Monica announced the news of his death in a statement on Wednesday.

“It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Ignatius Jones AM, after a brief illness,” he wrote.

“His friends and family will remember Iggy as a bon vivant, a lively storyteller and a true Renaissance man, immensely and passionately knowledgeable about history and the arts,” he added.

Australia’s arts community has lost a champion and dinner parties will now be less interesting with his passing.”
