Iggy Azalea has revealed how she came up with her quirky stage name.
The Australian-born star, whose real name is Amethyst Amelia Kelly, told Wired.com on Tuesday that she needed a name that fit her true self.
“The reason I didn’t use (Amethyst) is because it’s too serious and I’m a giant idiot,” she admitted with a laugh.
Instead, Iggy opted for a name inspired by her email recovery password.
Iggy went on to reveal that her dog was named Iggy and that she grew up on Azalea Street.
Iggy comes from humble beginnings and grew up in Mullumbimby, New South Wales, a town with a population of just 3,000 people.
Azalea grew up in a modest adobe house with her artist parents.
She left Australia when she was just 16 and moved to Miami to pursue her dream of becoming a famous rapper.

Iggy got her big break after signing with the TI label and released a string of minor hip-hop hits before hitting the big time in 2014.
Earlier this year, she apparently abandoned her music career to make a fortune on OnlyFans.
Iggy took to X (formerly Twitter) to pen a lengthy message to her followers about her plans to focus on other creative projects.
The star said: “I know a lot of people have this idea that I was ‘scared away from music’ and that’s something I’ve always laughed off because they would never bully me into not doing anything. I’m actually too stubborn.”

‘I think even I myself have resisted making changes at times, simply because I don’t like to be seen as a give-up person.’
And despite having been working on her fourth studio album, she said she is taking this career change seriously as she plans to start a new path.
‘For many of you, this is no surprise. It shows in my work. Haha! Jokes aside, I spend a lot more time on that side of things… because it’s where I have the most confidence.’
“That’s why I want to let you know that I’m not going to finish my album,” he concluded.
Iggy went on to reveal that her dog was named Iggy and that she grew up on Azalea Street.
The singer-turned-porn actress joined OnlyFans in January (after swearing she’d never be on the site) and has since released a physical sex tape on its official merch store.
However, it is unclear whether the VHS tape actually contains sexually explicit acts or is just a decorative piece of merchandising, but it has already completely sold out online.
He is believed to have made millions from the swashbuckling subscription-based website after his change of heart, but has declined to reveal exactly how much.
Iggy last performed at the Adult Video News Awards in late January.
