A massive fire at a warehouse near Ibiza airport has caused delays to cars traveling to and from the travel centre.

Around midday, smoke was seen coming out of the Citubo warehouse, located in the Can Frígoles Industrial Estate, next to the runways of Ibiza airport.

A woman on a RyanAir flight landing in Ibiza managed to take a video of the inferno and posted a clip on TikTok showing the black plum rising high into the sky.

At least 13 flights from Ibiza traveling between 3:00 p.m. and at least 5:00 p.m. have suffered delays, including a RyanAir flight to Liverpool John Lennon airport, according to the website of the Spanish airport management company Aena.

Arrivals have also been delayed, with at least 19 planes expected to land later than usual, including one flight from London Heathrow.

Smoke from the fire, which also spread to an adjacent building housing a car rental company, was reportedly visible for miles, from as far away as Sant Antoni, on the other side of the island.

The fire in the 1,000 square meter warehouse has caused long queues of cars to form in the entrance and exit lanes of the airport. No injuries or deaths have been reported, although an elderly man who was at the scene had to be treated by emergency services for smoke inhalation.

Local media said the warehouse workers, around twenty in total, were evacuated in less than two minutes.

Sant Josep Town Hall, the local authority, said the warehouse was destroyed by the fire and is expected to collapse soon, according to local media.

The warehouse, which is located behind a department store, reportedly contains a wide range of products including gardening equipment, furniture, lighting, household items and toys.

At the moment the causes of the fire are unknown, although police and firefighters are on the scene still putting out the fire, which has been brought under control.

Local fire chief Miguel Sevilla said the highly flammable material inside increased the risk of the fire spreading further.
