Ian Wright and Ange Postecoglou criticized the decision to rule out Romelu Lukaku’s goal against Romania for offside.

Lukaku thought he had doubled Belgium’s lead on Saturday night before semi-automatic technology marked him offside in a very difficult decision.

Although Belgium won 2-0, the striker has already had three goals disallowed at Euro 2024, after two were disallowed in the 1-0 loss to Slovakia.

“As a striker, I’m never going to be able to accept that kind of offside, especially when strikers are trying to control runs and we’re talking about an advantage,” Wright told ITV Sport.

“I can’t understand that when a defender and a striker are looking in the same direction, and you’re talking about millimeters, the striker has an advantage there.

Postecoglou said: ‘Don’t get me started! My frustration is that we have now turned football into something forensic, into millimeters.

“I think if that goal had stood without offside technology, no one would have said anything.

‘When does contact with the ball occur? We’ve seen the end result of that (but not when the pass was played).

“It has changed the game materially. I’m not a fan but it’s there and it’s used. The only positive thing I see is that they are doing it quickly.”
