Ian Thorpe has finally broken his silence after ex-boyfriend Ryan Channing’s sudden death in Bali earlier this month.
The retired Olympic swimmer described her death as “tragic” and said he felt sorry for his former partner’s family during this difficult time.

The model and skincare entrepreneur died on May 8 after collapsing inside a villa in Bali while on vacation with his family.
Daily Mail Australia may reveal that Channing was treated at BIMC Hospital in Kuta for a “prescription drug overdose”.
He was rushed to hospital on May 6 after fainting and spent two days in the intensive care unit before he died, aged 32.
Channing’s body was due to arrive in Perth on Friday on a repatriation flight from Indonesia.
His funeral is expected to be held in Perth next week.
Thorpe was forced to put on a brave face just weeks after Channing’s death while attending the prestigious Gold Dinner in Sydney on Wednesday night.
The 39-year-old looked dapper in a tuxedo for the high-profile charity event benefiting Sydney Children’s Hospital.
It was the first time the Olympic legend had been seen following the sudden death of her first longtime boyfriend after he came out as gay.

Channing’s mother, Joy, who was at his bedside for his last two days, released a statement this week thanking his friends for their support.
“Thank you all for the overwhelming love and support you have shown us at this tragic time in our lives,” she posted on Instagram.
‘We are still in Bali, but we hope to be able to return home (sic) soon.’
Channing’s skincare line, The Blaq Group, released a statement shortly after her death noting that she battled health issues.
Channing’s sister, Charis, said coming to terms with his death was “the hardest thing” her family had ever had to do.
Kuta police were not treating Channing’s death as suspicious and no report had been filed, a standard practice given that he died in hospital.

Channing was Ian Thorpe’s first long-term boyfriend after publicly coming out and the pair were in an on-and-off relationship for four years before finally splitting in 2019.

The model divided her time between Bali, Australia and the United States for business, but flew to Bali two weeks before her death to reunite with her parents and sister.
Earlier, the couple had attended an impromptu memorial at a Kuta restaurant.
“Ryan lived life to the fullest,” Mrs. Channing said in tribute to her son.

Mr and Mrs Channing were photographed at the Mano Beach House surrounded by eight close friends at a dinner to remember the 32-year-old man.

A second tribute was also held in the sand at Kuta Beach, where lanterns were lit and friends held up a banner bearing Channing’s face.
“We love you – Ryan Matthew Channing,” the banner read.

His surprising death was announced on Instagram Wednesday by his younger brother Jake.
“Seeing the news headlines beat my entire family to post about this unfortunate time in our lives, it is with a heavy heart that I announce that my brother Ryan recently passed away on Sunday May 8th at the age of 32,” Jake wrote. . .
“As we search for answers and try to come to terms with the heartbreaking loss of my beautiful older brother, we ask for your prayers, support and privacy, he will forever be loved, never forgotten and forever young.”
