A woman says she is now “scared” to walk in her own suburb after a neighbor posted CCTV footage showing her putting dog poo in her bin.
The footage, captured by a security camera in Khandallah, Wellington, showed the woman walking her dogs shortly after 9.30am on Wednesday.
She was seen placing a bag containing dog waste into a yellow recycling bin before continuing her walk.
The furious owner shared the footage on YouTube and a local Facebook group and criticized her actions.
“It’s very unpleasant to put your dogs’ bags in the yellow recycling bin,” the post said.
‘I’ve seen it happen a couple of times. Hard-working recycling staff have to handle it and contaminate the collection.
“It’s great that you pick up the dog’s shit, but don’t be lazy: take it home or find a suitable garbage container.”
The dog’s owner told Daily Mail Australia she deeply regrets her mistake, but wishes the homeowner had confronted her directly instead of publicly shaming her on Facebook.
A woman who put her dog’s poop in a recycling bin in Wellington (pictured) has revealed the online “harassment” she has received after images of the act were posted on Facebook.
He said he now feels “afraid to go for a walk” in his own neighborhood after the post and that he “really regrets” the act.
The post has sparked a significant reaction from locals after receiving more than 10,000 views. The woman now claims she feels unsafe in her community.
He explained that, in an effort to do the right thing, he put the dog poop in the nearest container instead of leaving it on the road, where it could have ended up on someone’s shoe.
He said he had “other things on his mind” and didn’t realize the bin was for recycling, claiming it was simply an honest mistake.
“I would have liked to apologize, but instead they went and embarrassed me in front of the whole neighborhood,” he said.
Comments under the post described her as “lazy” and the type of owner who “doesn’t take care of her dogs and lets them shit wherever they want.”
However, other locals jumped to his defense.
The owner (left) who posted the images asked the woman not to be lazy on Facebook.
‘I really hate it when people post other people’s videos. You have no idea what impact it could have on them.
‘Be kind and non-judgmental, it’s not the end of the world, you know?’
The dog walker said the comments on the post were “completely out of control” for an act he “truly regrets.”
“The harassment I received after it was shared online was shocking,” she said.
“And now I’m afraid to go out for a walk in my own neighborhood.”
The woman said a “Karen-style” culture has taken over the community, with people choosing to shame others on Facebook rather than address issues directly.
‘Grown men like this need to grow up. Instead of acting like the neighborhood cop and shaming me on Facebook, they should have confronted me directly because we live close by. They know who I am because I walk that route every day.’
The woman said she plans to apologize to him face to face.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted the neighbor who posted the video for comment.
