A mother who dressed her five-year-old daughter in white was left shocked after being angrily confronted by her jealous girlfriend.
The mother explained that her daughter is very close to her brother, the groom, and was excited to attend the ceremony.
“When my brother and his fiancée announced their engagement, my daughter got upset because she wanted to marry him first,” she wrote on Reddit.
“He gave her a plastic ring and promised she would be his ‘best girl’ and dance with him at the wedding. They practiced for it every time he visited,” she added.
Due to her daughter’s eczema flare-up, the mother chose a different wedding dress for the girl at the last minute: a simple white cotton dress.
The bride then became jealous when she saw the color of the boy’s wedding dress, and even asked the mother to go home and choose another option.
The mother refused to leave and chose less offensive clothing, prioritizing the child’s comfort.
That’s when things quickly spiraled out of control.
A mother who decided to dress her five-year-old daughter in a white dress caused a jealous rage in the bride, who had to cancel the entire wedding.
“The bride accused me of upsetting my daughter… she also made a disturbing comment about how my daughter would look as a ‘child bride,'” the woman said.
“I was horrified and told him it was disgusting.”
As the bride attempted to apologize for her outburst afterwards, the mother left the wedding with her son in tears, prompting his brother to cancel the entire ceremony.
“Apparently she has always been extremely jealous of my brother’s close relationship with my daughter, how he constantly buys her things and offers to babysit her instead of spending money or time with his fiancée,” the woman explained.
Taking to Reddit to ask if she was wrong, the American mother sharply divided opinion with her decision to dress her son in white.
Many people argued that the situation could have been easily avoided and that it was entirely the mother’s fault.
“You really can’t imagine at all how you could have made a mistake here,” one man asked.
“The ring plus the dance plus the desire to marry him is creepy as hell, but you wearing her in white given that context is really unhinged,” one woman said.
“At best, no one had any bad intentions, but it was a lot. A ring, a dance with lights and a white dress? What could the bride get that her niece doesn’t?” he added.
“The daughter’s obsession with her uncle (and the way adults handle her) prevented her uncle from getting married. It’s crazy,” she said.
Others criticized the mother for having only one dress suitable for her son to wear.
“If your daughter has such severe eczema, then it is your duty to have more than one item of clothing that will not cause discomfort, especially in the summer. A cotton item? Come on!” said one woman.
Others called the bride’s reaction crazy and blamed her alone for the drama.
“Honestly, the bride is crazy for feeling insecure about having a child, the main reason people don’t want others to wear white is the fear of losing their prominence, a child is not going to upstage them,” said one woman.
“I agree. This bride is crazy if she is jealous of a five year old… she seems deranged. She should be thrilled that her husband is so kind and interactive with his niece. He seems like a good father,” said another woman.
“The bride is disgusting. The brother dodged a bullet,” said another.
Others also thought that the groom’s extreme reaction to canceling the wedding.
Some people refused to take sides.
“I’m horrified by everyone’s actions except the child’s,” one man said.
