The Surgeon General responsible for former President Donald Trump’s health has an intriguing nutritional trick that he says helps him live longer.
Dr. Jerome Adams, who worked from 2017 to 2021 and is an anesthesiologist, swears by a smoothie that he drinks daily.
But it’s not just any smoothie. Dr. Adams includes four specific elements that he believes work together to offer a number of benefits.
They are spinach, almond milk, frozen fruit such as strawberries or mangoes and carrots.
The fruit drink is not only full of essential micronutrients, but, according to him, it fills him up and therefore prevents him from snacking.

Dr. Adams, now director of Purdue University in Indiana, says smoothies help him eat fewer ultra-processed foods, such as sugary cereals, sodas, convenience foods and processed meats.
He said Business Insider: ‘I’m not a person who really likes a lot of fruits and vegetables.
He was a general surgeon in the US from 2017 to 2021.
‘(But) the best way for people to protect themselves is to incorporate and substitute vegetables and fruits for processed grains and artificial foods whenever we can. “Smoothies are one way to do that.”
He added: “You can literally get a full day’s worth of fruits and vegetables in one smoothie.”
‘You don’t even try the spinach. That’s my trick.
Several studies have linked eating more fruits and vegetables to a longer life, including a study 2021 suggest that eating five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day is linked to a significant reduction in the risk of death from heart and respiratory diseases.
Eating more fruits and vegetables can also help control body weight, since produce is low in calories.
Improves digestive health and inflammation in the body, which can help extend lifespan.
Dr. Adams Drink the smoothie before you leave the house or right after you get home, and throw the ingredients into a blender for a quick fix.
Dr. Adams noticed that some people add yogurt to smoothies, but he omits this ingredient because he is lactose intolerant.
While Surgeon General, Dr. Adams’ priorities were addressing the opioid epidemic and the rise in untreated mental illness.
But the work was put on hold when Covid emerged in 2020, and Dr Adams was appointed to the pandemic task force.
During this time, he made statements including that Covid masks may not help people avoid contracting Covid, which was later supported by research from the prestigious medical body the Cochrane Society.
He was reported to have been sidelined by the Trump administration in April 2020. The Biden administration subsequently asked him to resign in January 2021.
Dr. Adams also previously praised Trump’s diet, saying the then-president was “healthier” than the Surgeon General himself.
During an interview in March 2020, he said, ‘(President Trump) sleeps less than me and is healthier than me.’
