A class assistant was left furious after she was banned from wearing leggings to exercise at a school camp.

The woman, who is also a mother of four, said she was asked to help at the camp for seventh-grade students, but was surprised by the dress code.

She had asked if Lorna Jane style stockings were okay to wear on the trip, hoping it wouldn’t be a problem.

“The answer was no because I work with young men, but shorts would be acceptable,” he said.

‘Who says tights reveal more than shorts and what does it matter? How outdated this mentality is. Have we learned nothing?

“It’s 2024, let’s start teaching men to be upstanding citizens who support women.”

He said the camp was based around exercise-based activities, including hiking and mountain biking.

The outburst divided opinion among an exclusively women’s group.

“I can’t believe this is still happening in 2024,” one woman said.

‘To be honest, I wouldn’t even have thought to ask and he would have turned up with five pairs of socks. But yeah, what the hell,’ another agreed.

“This kind of nonsense doesn’t teach young men about consent, it doesn’t teach them to respect women – it perpetuates misogyny,” added a third.

Others were less surprised.

“Sounds like the school camp rules we got this year,” one woman said.

“I work in New South Wales, tights are fine for sports, but only if you wear a long shirt,” said one woman.

“I work at a girls’ school and we have the same rules, so it’s not about boys.”

Many sided with the high school.

Women were divided over the directive and some agreed-upon leggings are not appropriate even for activity-based camps.

“The expectation is to dress professionally, not for the gym or the weekend,” one woman said.

‘I have worked in all sectors in WA: independent, Catholic and public. About ten schools in total. You are not allowed to wear stockings in any of them,” he added.

She then advised the younger woman to consider long shorts and sweatpants.

“We women are wired differently than teenagers,” one woman said.

“It’s best not to wear anything tight or revealing.”

Others commented on the posts to claim that their daughters have been banned from wearing sportswear.

“Tights are not allowed for girls in grades 7 and up because they might make male teachers feel ‘uncomfortable,'” one woman said.
