Edinson Cavani has insisted he will leave Manchester United with fond memories, despite the club’s dismal campaign and his own season with many injuries, when he confirmed his departure from Old Trafford.

But he struggled in his second season with just two goals in 20 appearances, as he missed large parts of the season with several injury problems.

Cavani quickly became a popular figure among United fans, but supporters grew frustrated with his lack of playing time.

He has only played 90 minutes for the club since early January, which came in United’s 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace in United’s last game of the season last Sunday.

In an interview with United’s websiteCavani thanked the supporters and admitted he hoped for more this season.

“I have nothing but words of gratitude to the fans and supporters of Manchester United sincerely,” Cavani said.

“Honestly, they showed me a lot of respect from the first moment I arrived. I think they really recognized all the hard work I’ve always tried to put into the best possible way, by doing my best for this team.

“I’m really very grateful and I’m leaving here with a happy memory of the affection they have shown me and have always shown.”

“I wanted to contribute more this season. One of the things that has left me with a slightly bitter taste is that when we had a very enjoyable and quite decent [2020/21] We couldn’t have the supporters with us this season.
