I visited one of Australia’s most iconic holiday spots and was very disappointed

An Australian who had wanted to visit the Great Barrier Reef for “years” was left completely “devastated and disappointed” by the state of the coral.

Sydney eyebrow artist Adriana Zero was excited to see the natural beauty of the reef, but was disappointed when her expectations were not met.

The tour guide took the group to Bait Reef when it was raining heavily and the reef lacked color. Zero admitted that the best part of the day was a cup of coffee and a piece of cake.

“This is the most disappointing thing,” he said in a TikTok. video while floating on the surface of the ocean while snorkeling.

‘There is no color, there are no fish (and) everything seems dead. It’s certainly not what one would expect from the Great Barrier Reef… and this is supposed to be the most beautiful place on the Great Barrier Reef.’

In the now viral video, Zero rotated the camera to show what the reef looked like underwater.

“There’s a lot of white stuff floating around, which makes it pretty hard to see anything,” he said.

The only time Zero was able to see multiple fish was at the end of the tour, when he threw bread into the water from the boat, but the tour operators strongly advised him against doing so.

“It was torrential rain and terrible weather, and they still got us out,” he said.

Before the trip, Ms Zero claimed she understood the impact global warming and tourists were having on the reef, but had no idea how much damage had been caused.

‘I had heard it and hoped we were regenerating it. This showed me that we have a long way to go. The guides agreed that what you see in the documentaries is not reality and is very strange to see,” he stated.

Since then, Ms. Zero’s video has been viewed more than one million times and received more than 47,000 likes.

‘I’m sorry you had a disappointing experience, the barrier reef is amazing, it sounds like you’ve just had a bad day or place. Maybe next time,” one wrote.

‘The Great Barrier Reef is huge, but not everything is a pretty reef to look at. “There are places that have more marine life than others,” said another.

A third added: “I went to the Great Barrier Reef recently and this was the complete opposite of my experience.”

Others encouraged Ms Zero to return and explore different parts of the reef, with some suggesting visiting Western Australia.

‘You have to go to Ningaloo Reef! “It’s much more pristine and untouched,” one wrote.

“Ningaloo and the Coral Coast line will never disappoint,” confirmed another.

“Go to Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia,” said another.

According WWF AustraliaIn the last 30 years the reef has lost half of its coral cover due to global warming, coral bleaching and pollution.

The reef itself is 2,300 km long and stretches from the northern tip of Queensland to northern Bundaberg.

It is made up of 900 islands and has 3,000 coral reefs where thousands of species of marine life live.
