Forget the chairlift, this experience requires an Uber Snowcat

Last week I celebrated Uber’s 10th anniversary in New Zealand with a once-in-a-lifetime ski and dining experience worth $2,000, and now I’m telling you how you can do it too, absolutely free.

To mark this decade-long milestone in Aotearoa, the tech giant is offering its Uber One members the chance to ski (or snowboard) at the stunning Soho Basin course, just an hour’s drive from Queenstown.

For years, Soho Basin in New Zealand’s Southern Alps has only been open to private bookings, for those who don’t mind shelling out a fortune to ski isolated, untouched mountain terrain.

But now, this once-in-a-lifetime ski trip worth $2,000 can be booked for free.

The day begins at Rodd & Gunn Lodge in Queenstown, where you will be collected by luxury transfer and taken to Soho Basin, a private ski field adjacent to Mount Cadrona.

After a morning snack and a short safety briefing, you’ll be whisked up the mountain in an Uber Snowcat (there are no chairlifts here).

The day of luxury doesn’t end there. Lunch in the snow fields. Includes a world-class high-altitude dining experience hosted by the three-star Amisfield Restaurant.

Lunch is rustic style filled with farm-to-table delights with plenty of wine and located in a secluded cabin that boasts panoramic views of snow-capped mountains.

Imagine a day of first slopes after first slopes.

This experience is aimed at intermediate to advanced skiers (no green runs here), think knee-deep powder.

It will be possible to reserve a spot for the limited-time exclusive ski cat and dine experience through the Uber Eats app in New Zealand by entering your address such as Queenstown and searching for “Uber One Exclusive Ski Experience.”

The one-day event, which begins on Saturday, August 24, will span three consecutive weekends and provide a select group of thrill-seekers with exclusive access to untouched alpine terrain.

Each day is limited to just 20 guests, ensuring an intimate experience as participants explore the interior of the mountain under the expert guidance of seasoned professionals from the Soho Basin team.

Making the experience even more bittersweet is the news that this is the final year of operation for Soho Basin, as Cardrona will take over the slopes and install chairlifts from 2025.
