A mother-of-four has revealed her terrifying experience with an abusive partner who shot her four times and left her to die on the side of a road.

Melbourne woman Amy* was on holiday with her two children and new partner Birsha* in Ethiopia to see her family as a way to protect herself from his wrath.

The couple met after Amy’s beloved ex-partner died of cancer and the kind Birsha drove her crazy.

His anger only surfaced after she moved in with him, hitting her with a hot iron and saying that men in Australia get away with femicide.

Months later, she would find herself alone in a car with him after sunset in Africa under the pretense of seeing a mountain range before spotting a gun in his pants.

Amy said that was when she uttered the ten chilling words: ‘We’re not going home. Today is your last day.’

A mother-of-five has revealed how she narrowly avoided death at the hands of her abusive partner while on holiday in Ethiopia thinking she could escape his wrath.

Amy moved to Australia in 2008 as a mother of three and worked as a make-up artist and hairdresser before Birsha destroyed her life.

A series of red flags began to appear in their relationship as his abusive nature rose. 7news reported.

She said Birsha said that if she ever called the police, he would “slit her throat” before they could arrive.

During one incident, a neighbor heard Amy’s screams and called the police, prompting her to beg them to tell Birsha that it wasn’t her who called.

He would father two of her children before the topic of family vacations came up and Amy realized he was suggesting countries with relaxed gun laws.

He suggested that Ethiopia, where guns can be purchased, go to see his family, believing they could help her and her children escape before he could kill her.

They arrived in late 2019 and were stuck in the country while international borders were closed during the Covid pandemic.

Instead of fleeing Birsha’s violence, he put Amy in a car and told her of his plan to kill her and report her missing before shooting her in the leg.

“She got out of the car and then he followed her around the car and shot her in the legs three more times as she tried to run away pleading for her life,” said one GoFundMe because Amy reads.

He shot her four times in the legs and left her for dead on a country road, only for farmers to come to her aid and take her to hospital, where she narrowly survived.

‘Amy fell to the ground and began to lose consciousness as he walked away, leaving her for dead.

“Fortunately, a good Samaritan found her after hearing gunshots, called for help, wrapped his clothes around her legs and took her to a hospital where time was of the essence.”

Amy needed 21 blood transfusions and spent six hours in surgery to remove the bullets, however one is still lodged in her leg.

She was now left disabled by the attack, with “fragments of muscle and tissue missing and permanent nerve damage.”

Her family was able to put her on a plane back to Australia, heartbreakingly without her children, in the hope of reuniting with them once she properly recovered.

However, she cannot afford all the medical help she needs and has been forced to live in women’s shelters without being able to properly care for her due to lack of funding.

Amy, an Australian citizen, is still waiting for Centrelink and NDIS applications to be approved to help her.

A friend of hers has created a GoFundMe for Amy to help her during her rehabilitation.
