Gary Neville has made a very audacious claim about Paul Pogba, claiming he ‘could be player of the year’ despite his costly penalty miss against Wolves.
The Manchester United midfielder wasted the opportunity to seal all three points from the penalty spot in the second half – seeing his effort saved by Rui Patricio after telling Marcus Rashford that he wanted to take it.
But despite Pogba’s moment to forget, former United right back Neville claimed the Frenchman could be the star man to watch this season in the Premier League.

Neville told Sky Sports: ‘I think he could be the player of the year. That sounds like a bold statement’, before Jamie Carragher shut him down by replying: ‘Stupid statement!’
But Neville – who won eight league titles, two Champions Leagues and three FA Cups with United – continued, claiming that the French World Cup winner has the ‘biggest personality’ in the Premier League.
The 44-year-old added: ‘He has the potential to be the best player in this league. He has the biggest personality in this league.
‘Manchester United’s season rests a lot on him depending on how well he plays. I think he could be the player of the year, he is the one to watch for me.

‘A lot of success for United depends on him and whether he can reach his real high standard.’
Pogba has been searching for a route out this summer as he eyes up a move to either Real Madrid or Juventus but he has started the season well for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
The 26-year-old made two assists for United in their 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea during the opening game of the season, before enjoying a strong performance in midfield against Wolves despite his penalty miss.
