An Australian woman used three rattan potholders from Kmart and spent $90 on a kitchen renovation that could have cost her up to $1800.

An Australian woman who wanted new pendant lamp shades to add a stylish touch to her kitchen saved hundreds of dollars by repurposing a cheap item she found at Kmart.

The woman wanted rustic-looking light covers, which can sell for $299 to $599 each from designer home goods brands.

Instead, she bought three rattan-look potholders and holders from Kmart for $22 each and lighting cords for $8 from IKEA, which gave her the same stylish effect for $90.

“I was looking for pendant lights for our new kitchen and couldn’t believe how much they cost at big box retailers,” she said online.

‘I decided to adapt these rattan-look potholders from Kmart with brackets to turn them into pendant light shades using an IKEA hanging kit.

‘Instead of spending about $600, the total cost of these three pendants was $90. Super easy and pretty effective, right?’

Many were impressed with this creative and inexpensive home decorating tip, which saved them hundreds of dollars, and agreed that the results were “lovely.”

“Very clever,” said one.

“I love these and they will last forever,” added another.

The Australian expert added that while she had created the pendants herself, she had hired an electrician to install the actual lighting.

One woman said she had also made a pendant lamp using a suspension wire, but had bought the lampshades at Kmart instead of using the pot holder.

This comes after the launch of Kmart’s new home goods collection in August, which included a velvet floor mirror for $69.

The popular item was said to be a knockoff of a designer brand mirror that sells for up to $599, and fans can’t get enough of the stylish piece.

“It’s very cute and elegant, I love it,” said one.
