The owner of a naturist resort in Fuerteventura has revealed the biggest mistake people make when signing up.

Karie Jane, from Derbyshire, created the BHH Naturist Resort in the Canary Islands, Spain, after trying this lifestyle for the first time 20 years ago.

The 57-year-old now runs retreats where she hosts groups of strangers who have ‘booked separately’ to enjoy the hotel rooms at her nudist property, as well as hosting families and couples.

Elaborating on what people don’t understand at her resort, Karie said that people think nudism is about sex.

On her resort website, Karie writes: “Being naked around other people is not shameful. Nudism is not porn.

“In fact, it’s easy to forget that everyone is naked and just because they are naked doesn’t create a sexually charged atmosphere.”

‘If you’re going to an event or the beach to have fun… you might as well buy a magazine and do us all a favor and stay home.

‘Any sexual activity in a public place is not only offensive… it is illegal. Nobody wants to see that.

‘However, holding hands, a hug or a simple kiss is fine. If you want to show more affection to someone you love, I suggest you get a room or wait until you get home to do it.’

Discussing what can happen if someone gets an erection at her naturist resort, Katie went on to say: “Yes, they can happen, especially if you’re new to nudism.”

“The best way to deal with this is to roll over on the towel or, if you’re at the beach, you can stay in the water until your situation is more under control.”

If someone calls attention to the fact that they are standing at attention, Karie says they should be reported.

She explains: “If you see someone with an obvious erection and they are purposely attracting attention, tell a lifeguard or the authorities and, in most cases, they will be kicked out and banned from returning.”

Staring at someone’s body is also frowning. Karie’s website says: “It’s very rude to stare, and also, if you’re going to have a conversation with someone, make sure you’re talking to them with proper eye contact.”

“Because you can see very clearly that it is.”

In March of this year, one enthusiastic traveler shed light on what it’s really like to go on a naked cruise: having less luggage to pack is one of the main advantages.

Writing anonymously on Reddit, the man, 67, invited other users to “ask me anything” about the experience.

He booked a cruise through Texas-based travel company Bare Necessities, which has operated clothing-optional charter flights since 1990.

The unnamed man said he was on a 2,000-passenger Carnival cruise ship with his 61-year-old wife for a seven-day round trip from Tampa, Florida, with stops in Mexico and Honduras along the way.

He reiterated to other Reddit users that the trip (his first nudist cruise) was “not a swingers’ cruise or a sex-positive environment” and that “it was a very experienced nudist crowd.”

Explaining the ins and outs of nude cruises, he revealed that the captain “usually makes an announcement after leaving a port when you can remove your clothes” and “it’s usually about thirty minutes.”

Then the same thing happens in reverse, as the ship begins to approach its next port of call.

She added that people “usually take advantage of the opportunity to be naked, since that is the goal of the cruise.”

As for staff, he said all the cruise workers were dressed up “except for a male and female duo” who performed in the theater.
