An Australian millennial “unlocked a pivotal memory” after recalling something she did all the time as a child – and it’s something Gen Z won’t be able to relate to.
Comedian Tanya Hennessy used to call her mother on her work phone to ask random questions, like whether she could get ice cream or invite a friend over.
Since most people didn’t have a cell phone in the 90s, Millennials awkwardly talked to their parents’ coworker or the receptionist after calling their desk phone.
And Tanya isn’t the only one who did this. Other nostalgic millennials admitted that they did the same thing when they were young and alone at home.
“You know what’s really crazy? Gen Z will never understand this, but for millennials, this is a huge cut,” Tanya said in a video.
“Why would we call our parents at work? We would literally interrupt their work day to ask them really stupid questions.
‘Sometimes you had to speak to a receptionist before you got to see your parents and then you’d phone your parents and say, “Oh, can Sarah come?”
“You’d say, ‘Can I have some ice cream?’ and your mom would be completely busy working. Sometimes you’d call her multiple times.”

“And the questions were so dumb because we didn’t have texting and it was weird to fax. I remember calling my mom at work to ask if I could have frozen peas,” Tanya continued.
The cheerful Instagram video quickly caught the attention of the masses and received more than 20,000 likes.
Another person agreed, saying, “It’s because we were home alone A LOT. We grew up alone and only talked to our parents by calling them. That’s why it happened to me.”
Someone else said: “This is why we don’t like phone calls now.”
“I guarantee you that’s what texting was invented for,” added another.
Another person said: “Because Gen X parents made us ask for EVERYTHING. There’s no reason a child should ask to eat a banana if they’re hungry.”
“This is a very special memory. I started being home alone in third grade, so I had to call and ask for anything I wanted to do. It was a different time. Crazy nostalgia,” added another millennial.
