A mother sparked outrage after posting an ‘innocent’ picture online – with parents criticizing a seemingly innocuous detail about her children’s school lunches.

The Gold Coast mother recently wanted to show off her impressive collection of b.box lunch boxes.

The high-quality bento boxes range from $32.95 to $36.95 and are typically considered high-end – which is why parents were shocked when the Queensland mum revealed she had 13 units to split between her two children.

“I can’t believe how many people are mad about my kids’ lunch box collection,” she said. ‘They’re literally just packed lunches! It’s lucky I didn’t show their drinking bottle and accessory collections.’

Several claimed the mother’s collection was ‘unnecessary hoarding’.

Mom’s excuse for having so many spares was not wanting to worry if her kids lost their lunch boxes.

But b.box allows customers to order specific parts of their lunch boxes (such as lids) if shoppers accidentally misplace or damage the items.

Parents on Facebook criticized the culture of overconsumption, saying it ‘didn’t make sense’ to buy quality products and ‘use them like disposable plastic’.

“I can barely afford one,” wrote one mother.

‘My son’s one finally broke after three years – which I think is pretty good. Can’t you just order the top part?’ another argued.

‘Why do you need 13 for two children?’ asked a mother.

Another said: ‘I have three children. They each have their own color and that’s it.’

But others did not see the problem with having extra lunch boxes.

“I have all the colors and only two children – they take another every day,” said one mother.

“Who knows when they’ll lose their packed lunch?” another argued.

One mother said: ‘I only have two children and they both go to childcare with meals. I still buy more than 10 lunch boxes because I want to.’

‘I only have one child and have five mini boxes, four snack boxes and five large bento boxes. I make (food) ahead of the week and just add the fresh day off. This FIFO mom needs to streamline mornings while she’s gone!’ said another.
