It is often considered one of the important moments in life, so when this man decided to propose to his girlfriend, he decided on a picturesque lake as his perfect location.
But while it may have been the ideal backdrop for a later Instagram engagement announcement, there was one thing he didn’t consider: the possibility of his fiancée losing her ring in the water.
Earlier this year, McKenna Hiller, who is a New York-based model, was asked by her future brother-in-law to film the proposal on her phone.
The video begins with her sister’s boyfriend, dressed smartly in a red shirt and cream chinos, kneeling as they stand together on a pier.
After caressing her boyfriend’s face, McKenna’s sister says “of course I will” and turns around to see her family’s reaction, but accidentally knocks the ring box out of her partner’s hand.

Bursting into a fit of laughter, the bride-to-be says, ‘Oh shit!’
Fortunately for the couple, McKenna reacted quickly and didn’t stop to think before jumping into the water to retrieve it.
She said: ‘My instinct as a little sister was to jump right in!’
But as he dives into the water, McKenna knocks over a beer bottle, prompting someone off-camera to say, “This is just like us!”
Thanks to her quick reactions, McKenna was able to rescue the diamond engagement ring before it floated away.
The video then ends with the couple reuniting with the ring and sharing a quick kiss.
Although they had originally only planned for the video to be shared among friends and family, McKenna later uploaded it to TikTok, where the footage left viewers in hysterics.
One wrote: ‘Why do people still propose on (piers)?! This was always going to happen!’
McKenna sprang into action to rescue the ring as her sister laughed and her brother-in-law watched.
Thanks to her quick reactions, McKenna was able to rescue the diamond engagement ring before it floated away.

In December 2023, a man went viral for all the wrong reasons when his girlfriend rejected his romantic proposal in Rome.
The video began with the couple dancing on the elegant Via dei Condotti street before he got down on one knee.
But her partner immediately tenses up as she makes repeated gestures pleading with him to stop in front of the onlookers as the romantic music continues.
‘I didn’t expect it. I wasn’t ready. But is that why we came to Rome? he says several times, according to the Italian newspaper La Stampa.
It is said that the man then asked in front of the spectators: “But is it yes or no?”
After some hesitation, she replies that it’s a “no,” before he stands up, heartbroken.
