I ordered this cake of my favourite SpongeBob characters for my 21st… but the bakery made its own rules and served up something else entirely

A man ordered a simple cartoon-themed cake for his 21st birthday – but what he received from the bakery left him speechless.

Dale was excited after he placed an expensive order with a popular baker in his area.

He expected to receive a tall single layer cake with blue icing and doodles that mimicked those from the popular children’s show SpongeBob SquarePants.

The reference image featured printed cake toppers of SpongeBob and Patrick, with a sign reading ’21 years later’.

But Dale was shocked when the final cake didn’t look like what he ordered.

While the baker made a valiant attempt to recreate the original cartoons, the frosting rendition looked disproportionate and ‘scary’

The cake had no toppers and instead had the two characters iced with frosting.

While the baker made a valiant attempt to recreate the original cartoons, the frosting rendition looked disproportionate and ‘scary’.

It also had extra frills and edges, but lacked the ‘sandy’ base of the original candy starfish cake.

Another unauthorized change was ’21 Years Later’ on the original cake, which became ‘Here Comes 21’ on the new cake.

Dale shared photos of what he ordered and what he got, along with an awkward emoji to express his discomfort.

A few criticized the baker’s cake – with a few claiming that SpongeBob and Patrick ‘look drunk’.

But many applauded the effort and said the cake Dale received was a ‘work of art’.

“People need to understand that when you order a cake, you will get the decorator’s style and interpretation, it will never be a copy and paste of someone else’s work,” said one woman.

“And to be honest, yours looks better and the decorator actually pulled out Patrick and SpongeBob. The first cake used paper cutouts which are cheap and less creative in my opinion,” she added.

“The second one is amazing, you received art,” wrote another.

‘The cake you received perfectly mimics what I would expect from the birthday person at the end of the night on the 21st. Go hard or go home,’ said one.

‘It looks better, not going to lie. But that’s not what you asked for, so I understand your problem with that,’ one woman remarked.
