A man sparked a family row after announcing his wife’s pregnancy at his brother’s wedding – but the petty act was his form of revenge.

David* was furious when his brother John* said he was going to propose at their wedding last year despite being told no.

‘Mom got involved and said [John] I wanted a family I might not see for a while to be part of the proposal. I said I didn’t care and I would delete it,” David wrote on Reddit.

But he proposed to me and mom said she would leave if I tried to kick him out.

‘I just remember that I was boiling inside. [John] I got married last weekend. Instead of saying ‘welcome to the family’, I used the time to announce that my wife and I were expecting our first baby.’

A man sparked a dispute after announcing his wife’s pregnancy at his brother’s wedding.

The speech started a furious dispute between the brothers and their mother, with no one willing to admit wrongdoing.

David shed more light on what happened after his big announcement.

‘My mother was upset but my grandmother told her to sit down and shut up. “We spent most of the reception talking to family members who we wouldn’t see again for a while about our upcoming baby,” she said.

‘My mom says I was an idiot for taking the attention away from my brother on his wedding day.

“He got really angry when I reminded him that he threatened to walk out on my wedding if I kicked him out after he proposed. I have screenshots of the text messages.

Many applauded David for “playing the long game,” but others criticized him for his childish act.

“You are justified in doing what you did, but why prioritize a little revenge over preserving harmony with your brother and your son’s future uncles?” one said.

“When everyone knows the person is a jerk, you don’t seem like a better person by putting them in their place for no reason.” Especially when there is no immediate argument or conflict to defend against,” another noted.

Some shared their opinions on proposing at someone else’s wedding.

“Personally, if a man proposed to me during a wedding, I would feel deprived of my special day,” one said. “He proposed to her with someone else’s money and HIS entire family was there, but hers wasn’t, and someone’s in-laws were there too…weird.”

‘What kind of person even says yes to a marriage proposal at someone else’s wedding?’ asked another.

It’s the least classist thing anyone can do. I would be ashamed to marry someone like that. The only thing more trashy is proposing during a funeral.
