The remote control is also tiny, but not proportionately so (or it would be unusable). It has four buttons for volume up and down and channel up and down. A slight disappointment is that the videos always play from the beginning when you change channels; They don’t remember your place.

Mini machines

Tiny Circuits started these projects on Kickstarter a few years ago and offers an even smaller TV, the TinyTV Mini ($60)with an even smaller 0.6-inch OLED display with a resolution of 64 x 64 pixels, but I think it’s too small. The TinyTV 2 has a much better design and is as small as anyone needs.

I tried it too Little Thumb ($28)a sort of keychain-sized GameBoy with five playable retro games like Reek and Snake. It’s impressive that something so small works, but it’s very difficult to play with. However, I love that Tiny Circuits offers a in-browser code editor (runs Python), so you can create your own games.

Nobody needs a 1-inch TV, but they are ridiculously perfect for crafters, diorama makers, and even dollhouses. The TinyTV 2 may be fancy, but the combination of awe at how small it is and the beautiful nostalgic glow it provides makes it my favorite desktop ornament. And now I can watch TV under the covers at night without disturbing my wife.
