Frustrated boyfriend is fed up with his girlfriend's 'peculiar' habit that drives him crazy

A frustrated boyfriend is fed up with his girlfriend’s “peculiar” habit that drives him crazy.

The man, 26, has been dating his 24-year-old girlfriend for just over a year and says they are otherwise a perfect couple.

But one thing is pushing him over the edge: his refusal to pronounce common words correctly, despite his repeated attempts to correct her.

‘It’s not like I’m joking or trying to be funny. “She really thinks she’s saying them correctly,” he wrote on Reddit.

‘I’ve tried to correct her many times, but it’s like it goes in one ear and out the other. In a few minutes he will say the wrong version again.

While some people may let a bit of mispronunciation slide, he says the problem has become “unbearable” because she repeatedly butchers even the simplest words.

“It says ‘Chick-fil-ee’ instead of ‘Chick-fil-A,’ ‘liberry’ instead of ‘library,’ and ‘cipatol’ instead of ‘capitol.'”

And he added: “She always says words wrong, mixes up letters or replaces vowels with other sounds because she likes them better that way.”

‘Sometimes it’s the same word, other times it seems like he just decided he doesn’t like the way a particular word sounds on a particular day.

But what really bothers him is when she mispronounces things that matter to him personally, like his hometown.

‘We’re in ‘Chiago’ instead of Chicago, where I grew up, and right now I’m visiting my family. It’s like she doesn’t even care,” he fumed.

To make matters worse, his girlfriend is a highly educated woman studying for a master’s degree while holding down a job.

—I don’t think it’s a question of learning either. He does not have dyslexia or speech problems; He’s just lazy, at least that’s how it feels to me.

“She’s very smart, so I don’t understand why this is so difficult,” he explained.

During their trip to Chicago for New Year’s, the bride mispronounced the city’s name again, this time in front of her family.

Later, she did the same thing to his favorite restaurant and he finally snapped.

‘I lost my cool. I told him it’s frustrating that I can’t even try to get it right, especially when it comes to things I care about. I know I probably sounded harsh, but I was really angry.’

Now, his girlfriend barely talks to him, she’s glued to her phone, and the man wonders if he overreacted.

“I feel like an idiot because when we talk, it’s like I’m scolding a small child, not a 24-year-old woman who should already know how to pronounce simple things.”

Many shared their views on the matter online.

‘You weren’t wrong to correct his pronunciation the first time. Maybe not even the second time.

“Now you’re wrong because you kept pestering and bothering her even after it became clear she wasn’t interested in your help,” one said.

“If you don’t like the way she talks, let her go so she can find someone who does,” another added.

‘Why would anyone care so much? Also, what if it’s not intentional? “Not everyone is going to pronounce the words according to the rules,” one woman repeated.

“She’s doing this for attention,” one man theorized.

One commenter said: ‘This would drive me crazy.’ Like you said, she’s not stupid, but she apparently has no problem looking like that, especially in front of her family.
