A young woman has revealed how she walked out on her best friend’s wedding and the chance to be a bridesmaid at a work function.
Amy Dickinson, from Queensland, said she was very excited about her childhood playmate’s wedding and eagerly began planning it with her.
They had been shopping for dresses, discussing locations and decorations and everything was going perfectly.
That was until the invitation arrived in the mail and Amy realized it coincided with a work event.
The glamorous blonde took to TikTok with the story, explaining that she couldn’t change her work event and that her friend refused to change the wedding date. So, he cut up the dress and sent it back with the formal invitation.
Speaking to FEMAIL, Amy said she has now blocked her friend from contacting her on any platform, wasting a friendship that started in year one and lasted over 20 years.
At first glance, Amy is the villain of this story, but as it develops, she begins to win over people.
She explained that her friend, who she considered a bonus sister, had always been a little jealous of her, trying to tear her down a little at every opportunity.
Amy Dickinson from Queensland said she was very excited about her childhood playmate’s wedding and eagerly began planning it with her.
“We’d go shopping and something looked amazing and she’d wrinkle her face and say she hated it, but then something looked horrible and she’d say buy it,” Amy said.
She went on to add that she and her friend had always dreamed of doing business together, but none of their ideas came out of the chat.
This is an important detail because Amy thinks her friend is jealous of what happened next.
She and her sister ended up coming up with a business initiative called “the Social Summit,” a conference for TikTokkers and business-minded creators.
Amy and her sister planned the event for February 6, 2025, and she was eager to reveal the business idea to her friend.
When she did, her friend collapsed.
“She wasn’t excited for me and I could tell she was almost pissed off,” Amy said.
Then her friend said she didn’t know if she would be available “that day” on the first Thursday of the month.
Amy, confused, asked why.
Amy is confused by the drama and has blocked her friend.
Her friend said she had been thinking of that date as her wedding date.
This took Amy by surprise since her friend wasn’t even engaged at the time.
“As time went on, every time I mentioned the business, my friend didn’t have anything positive to say,” she said.
A few months later, until September, her friend called her to reveal that her partner had finally proposed to her.
“I’m so excited for her that she asked me to be her maid of honor and I said yes.” We started shopping for dresses together, organized the guest list, chose the color scheme, and then the date arrived.
‘She insists that she has to get married in February. I told her, as you know, the only date I can’t set is February 6, 2025. She would roll her eyes.
Her friend searched for the perfect venue, but called Amy to let her know that the only date they had available was Thursday, February 6th.
He explained that he had already booked his own work event, negotiated speakers, and started selling tickets; She is working full time for the work event and is fully committed.
Amy felt terrible because she wanted to be there for her friend on her big day but couldn’t abandon her commitments.
Then her friend called and said the place had found another date.
“I thought, Oh my gosh, it feels like everything is back to normal with my best friend, we’re both so excited for her big day,” she said.
Then the invitation arrived. On February 6th. Then Amy called her friend, who told her that the place had made a mistake and that the first Thursday of the month was the only date available.
“I was so pissed off at the time and I thought it was really funny, it’s a shame I won’t be able to attend,” Amy said.
Her friend was furious.
“She said, ‘What do you mean you’re not going to make it?'” Amy said.
Amy reminded him that the business event he had been working on for a year was on the same day.
“She said, ‘How could you do this to me, are you my bridesmaid?’ You’re really going to put some business before our friendship. You are like my sister. And I already paid for your dress,” Amy recalled.
“I said, ‘Okay, you can take the dress back and mail it to her along with an invitation to my event.’
The friendship does not seem salvageable and dozens of people have warned Amy not to make peace.
“You didn’t do anything wrong, you really need to get away from this friendship,” one woman said.
The friendship does not seem redeemable. And dozens of people have warned Amy not to make amends.
‘You definitely need to reconsider this friendship and these boundaries. She doesn’t seem like your best friend. Best friend and oldest friend are different,” said another.
Others said there’s only one way to determine if it’s really time to get rid of the friend.
“Call the place and check availability in February,” one woman said.
Some people didn’t even make it that far in history.
“I missed it because I wasn’t even engaged,” one woman said.
Another shared the devastating story of her best friend’s wedding.
“My ‘best friend’ decided to have her wedding ON MY BIRTHDAY and I found out via TikTok after she posted a video of the final lineup that I was not one of her 12 bridesmaids,” she wrote.
Others asked if the story was made up to promote the event.
Amy told FEMAIL she’s delighted people think she’s “that smart” but the story is true.
