I injected them with air.. A British nurse denies during her trial the charge of killing seven children

Date:

The 33-year-old defendant made her statement for the first time before the court regarding the charges against her of killing seven children and attempting to kill ten others between 2015 and 2016 when she was a nurse in the neonatal department at the Counts of Chester Hospital in northwest England.

Nurse Lucy Letby denied during her trial Tuesday in the British city of Manchester the charge of killing seven children in 2015 and 2016 against her, describing it as the “worst” charge, and explaining the background to notes she wrote and considered evidence of her guilt.

Seven months after the start of her trial last October, the 33-year-old defendant made her statement for the first time before the court regarding the charges against her of killing seven children and attempting to kill ten others between 2015 and 2016 when she was a nurse in the neonatal department of a hospital. Counts of Chester, northwest of England.

The prosecution accused her of killing children by injecting them with air or insulin.

Lucy Letby said on Tuesday that the accusations against her were “disgusting”.

“I didn’t believe it, I don’t think anyone could be accused of anything worse than that,” she added.

Letby said she had always wanted to “work with kids” and that she was the first in her family to go to university.

In response to questions from her defense attorney, Ben Myers, during his interrogation, she denied that she had ever intended to harm infants. She said this was “totally contrary to what a nurse should be.”

“My work was my life and my whole world stopped,” she added, when she was discharged from the neonatal ward.

In this context, she gave clarifications about the content of notes she wrote and found during the investigation.

Among these writings, “I do not deserve to live. I killed them because I am not good enough to take care of them. I am a bad and terrible person. I am evil. I did it.”

She claimed that she wrote the notes because she felt she had done “something bad”. “I thought I was a terrible person… I made mistakes without realizing it,” she said.

She confirmed that these notes are not a confession at all, but rather she wrote them when she was suffering from deep psychological distress.
