A woman has told the story of how she became pregnant with twins at the age of 15, despite her strict upbringing.
Karina Amaya, 20, from Lugoff, South Carolina, grew up in a religious family where her parents checked (and often confiscated) her cell phone every night and her social time was limited.
Despite this, she met and began dating her now husband and father of her twins at age 13, keeping the romance hidden by communicating through a secret phone.
Two years later, at age 15, Karina snuck him into her room for the first time, resulting in a shocking twin pregnancy. Fearing her parents’ reaction, she would end up hiding it for five months before her mother’s suspicions forced her to confess.
Looking back, Karina remembers feeling “terrible” at the time. She said: ‘I felt really bad… like I didn’t know… I just felt really bad. And I also started to cry.

The 20-year-old former high school student from South Carolina grew up in a religious family where her parents checked (and often confiscated) her cell phone every night and her social time was limited.
‘I felt bad because I didn’t know how my dad felt about it or what he was going to say to me. I thought he was going to throw me out of the house.’
Although Karina kept her pregnancy a secret for almost five months, it was not an easy task.
After weeks of successfully hiding that she was pregnant, Karina said her mother became suspicious, citing her daughter’s prominent belly and “thin” body as the reason.
That same morning, at 5 a.m., Karina said her mother took her to a gas station to buy a pregnancy remedy, which “of course was positive.”
The former high school student, who graduated through an online class, said she had no idea at first that she was pregnant with identical twins, just like her parents.
It wasn’t until she attended her first ultrasound that she discovered the shocking news.
She suffered the double blow of finding out that her daughter was not only pregnant, but also having twins: it was a difficult pill for her parents to swallow.
She explained: ‘Once they found out, my dad went to his room, closed the door and stayed there and my mom started crying on the floor.’
Karina said she became pregnant with twins after sneaking her now-husband into her room for the first time at age 15.

Although her parents were initially upset, Karina was relieved when her dad told her ‘everything is going to be okay.’
But later things would improve when his parents gradually accepted the news.
She recounted the time her father came home from work one night to speak the words of support she so longed to hear.
He told her that “everything is going to be okay” and that he would support his daughter on her first journey as a mother.
Karina also shared that her father began building his own room for his incoming granddaughters to enjoy.
Meanwhile, Karina’s mother was by her side and went with her to every medical appointment and ultrasound.
Later, Karina talked about her parents’ excitement that the girls would be the first twins in the family.
Karina said her mother became suspicious of her pregnancy due to her prominent belly and ‘thin’ frame.
The mother of two managed to complete high school by taking online classes.
In another video, Karina shared a second reason why motherhood was a surprise: She revealed that she had used “protection” during sex.
After noticing that her period was a month late, she decided to take a pregnancy test, however, she kept the results hidden from her parents for another four months.
‘When I saw the two lines, I thought what?!’ Karina said.
‘When my mother found out I started crying… she hugged me and was there to support me.’
She also shared her reasons for ‘keeping’ her pregnancy, despite what society may think of her.
And he added: “Many people judge us, I have received many hateful comments… that I should have had an abortion, that my future and my life were over.”
‘Being a mom means something really special to me. I know what my mom means to me, so I know what I will mean to my daughters.
The mother of two also gave a realistic portrait of what it’s like to raise twins and admitted it’s “hard work.”

He also shared advice for other teenagers who want to follow in his footsteps; she warned them, but showed her support for anyone already going through something similar.
Five years after her ordeal, Karina attributes it all to fate: “I feel like I was destined to be a twin mother,” she said. “Of course it’s hard, but motherhood is hard in general.”
