A young woman has been slammed by thousands of men for asking a simple question about a power tool.
Lex, from Melbourne, was trying to build storage shelves and couldn’t understand why what she thought was a drill wasn’t working properly.
She shared a video of the item and asked her followers for help – not expecting a wave of misogynistic comments about the inferiority of her gender.
‘Does anyone know what this is? Because I thought it was an exercise,” she said. “I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but it’s not working.”
A few commenters eventually revealed that the tool was an electric hammer, but that its head could be replaced with that of a drill if necessary.
A young woman has been slammed by thousands of men for asking a question about a power tool.
Lex received almost 20,000 comments from men criticizing her.
“Oh my lord, please, someone give this girl a man.” I would hate to see what she does behind the wheel,” one said.
“This is so stupid it makes my head hurt,” wrote another.
“There’s nothing I hate more than a helpless woman,” one shared.
Many others “volunteered” to “be her boyfriend” and “teach” her how to use power tools.
But some women defended Lex’s lack of knowledge.
“There’s nothing wrong with her not knowing.” “Women were never encouraged to learn these things, were not allowed to work in fields where tools were used, and her father would not have taught her because she was a girl,” said L ‘one of them.
“Knowing how to use power tools is not a gender issue. I know a lot of men who have no idea,” another woman added.
