Sarah Corcoran, a US divorce lawyer, said men who do not help with household chores only generate resentment in their marriages and risk losing them.

A lawyer has revealed the number one mistake men make in marriage that can lead to divorce – and it has nothing to do with infidelity.

Sarah Corcoran, A US divorce lawyer has said that husbands who fail to do their share of household chores could risk alienating their partners over time.

“A spouse who never participates in household chores often generates resentment in the other spouse,” Corcoran said.

‘There’s not going to be one incident that results in an extreme fight that ends the marriage, it’s a slow process.

‘So my advice to you, if you want to stay married, is to empty the dishwasher from time to time.’

The controversial topic of cleaning sparked a heated debate, with many women agreeing that a man who doesn’t do his fair share of household chores is damaging his marriage.

“How true! I work 8-12 hours a day, pay half the bills and am expected to do all the housework and cook a three-course meal, for it to make sense. I’m exhausted,” said one.

Sarah Corcoran, a US divorce lawyer, said men who do not help with household chores only generate resentment in their marriages and risk losing them.

“Men, act like you live there and are not guests,” another added.

“Say it louder for the men in the back, we have jobs too! I’d trade dishes to sit on the lawnmower whenever I wanted!” chimed in a third.

Many women argued that men often entered into marriage expecting to be taken care of, but that it was an expectation that had to go both ways.

Many wives said resentment was worse for working women who contribute financially to the household and often also bear most of the extra burden of cleaning.

But some say the idea that women do all the cleaning isn’t accurate when it comes to all marriages.

Some husbands complained that they were the ones who brought in the wages and also cleaned the house, and that their “lazy” wives were the cause of their own growing resentment.

And others said that trying to make a woman happy was an “endless” task, because even if they helped, it was never enough.

One woman already living with a “slow-burning” resentment of her own said helping out occasionally wasn’t enough for her.

“It’s better to do it more than once in a while,” he said.
