A 12-year-old with Down syndrome and autism who had been missing for two days in Sydney’s west has been found safe and sound.

Hussein Al Mansoory, aged 12, was last seen running from Auburn Memorial Park towards the junction of Station Road and Rawson Street, Auburn, at around 10.30am on Saturday.

A major search operation was launched, i.a. with the help of the police air wing and 100 SES volunteers who searched backyards in the area.

Police confirmed that Hussein was found safe at around 12.40pm on Monday. He is receiving medical attention.

Hussein was last seen wearing only a t-shirt and diaper and was barefoot.

CCTV captured Hussein, who is also non-verbal, at Auburn station on Saturday, but police say he did not board a train.

NSW Police Inspector Simon Glasser had previously said there was no indication of anything sinister behind the 12-year-old’s disappearance.

“We are very concerned, this is as high risk as it gets for us,” Inspector Glasser told reporters before the boy was found.

‘He is 12 years old, has special needs and has been out and about on his own for 48 hours now.’

He has also urged local residents to search their properties for any hiding places where Hussein could potentially be.

‘The family is quite distraught. They are frantically looking for their son,” he said.

‘The footage of him in a shirt and nappy shows how vulnerable he is.’
