“I understand that you seek your husband’s appreciation for what women go through during pregnancy and childbirth, but it’s the materialistic part that makes me sick,” the man explained.
‘The decision to bring a child into the world is the decision of both partners. My wife in our case is not obliged to be a mother or to be pregnant, since she also wants to be a mother,’ he reasoned.

Posting his dilemma on the AITAH subreddit, the anonymous man said his pregnant wife had been influenced by a viral TikTok video.
Despite expressing her reservations, the man’s wife demanded that he “dip into his personal savings to get her a car exclusively for her.”
“I looked at her, almost surprised, and burst out laughing,” he wrote.
‘I thought she was joking and pressed her if she was really serious. ‘She got really upset because I thought she was joking… and flat out said she’s expecting a real push present.’
The husband said he had planned to give her a piece of jewelry worth less than $700, along with a thoughtful card.
‘I said that your gift is the gift of parenthood and the result obtained from a healthy baby. And materially speaking, I’ll probably give her a Mother’s Day card, a day off, or some jewelry she wants (total less than $700), but nothing more,” he wrote.
‘I said if she really wants an extra car, it will be “OUR” car, not just hers. “She pushed harder and said it wasn’t enough for what she was going to go through,” he continued.
‘She kept pushing and pushing and asked me if I think she’s not worthy enough.
“I told her that she is worthy as my partner and mother of my child, but she has to be realistic and realize that none of us, individually speaking, are worthy of what she is asking for.”

The man then asked his wife to “manage her expectations.”

“I heard her criticize me to her sister on the phone, but under no circumstances would I consider giving her a car,” he wrote.
“I feel bad because he’s suffering right now, but I don’t feel bad for taking a look at reality.”
