The Carolina Hurricanes acquired forwards Mikko Rantanen from the Colorado Avalanche and Taylor Hall from the Chicago Blackhawks in a three-team trade on Friday night.
In the deal, Carolina sent Martin Necas and Jack Drury, as well as a second-round pick in this year’s draft and a fourth-rounder in 2026, to the Avalanche.
The Blackhawks regained a third-round pick for this year’s draft and took on half of Rantanen’s salary.
The deal comes as the NHL approaches its break from the 4-nation tournament, with just over a month before the league’s March 7 trade deadline.
The teams are trying to get a jump on the trade market with closely contested races in both conferences. Trade Talk had also intensified, with speculation surrounding Vancouver buy forward JT Miller.
