Hunter Biden secretly went into hiding at the White House two weeks after reaching a plea deal for his tax and gun crimes, according to a report.
The president’s scandal-ridden 53-year-old son spent two weeks in the executive mansion from June 21 – the day after he reached the now-defunct plea deal with US Attorney David Weiss, reported the Washington Post.
The deal would have saved Hunter a prison sentence for failing to pay taxes and lying about his drug habits on a gun form – but it blew up when the judge told Hunter that he could still be prosecuted for other crimes in the future.
Most of Biden’s aides were unaware of Hunter’s extended stay at the scene – which overlapped with the July 2 White House cocaine discovery, a White House state dinner with the prime minister Indian, two Biden family trips to Camp David and an Independence Day party. .

Hunter, his wife Melissa and son Beau left the White House on July 5.
The report notes that Biden aides “vigorously avoid” discussing Hunter and his ongoing legal troubles because they believe their “inputs and insights would not be welcome.”
Hunter’s long visit is a reminder of his continued closeness to his prominent father, despite the “toll” his scandals take on the president. That closeness will surely be used against Biden in the 2024 election, as Republicans have gone to great lengths to try to prove Joe was involved in Hunter’s trade deals.

House Republicans seized testimony from Hunter associate Devon Archer, who claimed that Joe had been in contact with Hunter’s business partners about 20 times in 10 years.
Joe Biden has made closeness to his family a key tenet of his public brand – and has repeatedly said he tries to speak to all of his children and grandchildren every day. Hunter’s 29-year-old daughter Naomi and then-fiancé Peter Neal lived in the White House before their nuptials on the property last year. It is not clear if they still reside there.
People close to the Biden family told the Post that they fear the scrutiny of Hunter, a recovering drug addict, could lead him to make “harmful” decisions.
The first son has kept a relatively high profile even as the legal troubles pile up. He accompanied Biden on a trip to Ireland on Air Force 1 in April and attended state dinners at the White House.
