A Chicago influencer has been spectacularly exposed as a liar after she tried to destroy a family restaurant with false claims.
Julia Reel, 22, saw six of her seven lawsuits against the Hubbard Inn in Windy City dismissed by a judge this week.
The ruling specifically stated that she had lied about being mistreated outside the business by a bouncer during a visit in March.
The influencer, who tried to destroy the business with a subsequent post, will still be able to come forward with allegations that the bouncer hurt her.
Video shared by Hubbard Inn debunked Reel’s claims that she was manhandled and pushed out of the restaurant, and the bouncer was seen leading her off the property without touching her.
Reel sued the Hubbard Inn seeking compensation for alleged injuries, including a concussion and significant bruising, which he claimed he suffered in the confrontation.
The restaurant later countersued Reel for defamation, claiming that his TikTok video caused losses of more than $30,000.
The Hubbard Inn said in a statement after the ruling that it was “pleased that the court saw our position in rejecting Ms. Reel’s unfounded claims.”
“After enduring months of smears on social media, we are grateful that the court recognized most of the claims for what they are: rubbish.”
TikToker Julia Reel claimed in a video earlier this year that she was ‘manhandled’ and pushed down the stairs of Chicago’s Hubbard Inn during a night out, before the restaurant responded with surveillance footage of how the incident actually unfolded. situation.
Although Reel removed his accusations from TikTok, the Hubbard Inn shared its own viral response to his video that received more than 9.9 million views.
In the response video, the restaurant showed clips of Reel’s claims along with surveillance footage of her encounter with the bouncer, beginning with her claims of being “manhandled” into getting her out of the bathroom.
Although Reel claimed the security guard grabbed her and her friend before they “had a chance to leave on our own,” surveillance showed the bouncer walking past her without touching her.
“This man immediately grabs me and grabs my arm, pushes me, abuses me, and what is happening?” Reel is seen complaining on his TikTok.
The Hubbard Inn captioned the footage proving the claim was a lie: “Below are images of Ms. Reel being safely escorted from the bathroom hallway to the exit stairs.”
Reel then escalated her accusations, claiming the bouncer pushed her down the restaurant stairs and “sent me flying.”
In surveillance footage showing the staircase, Reel and her friend were seen walking down the stairs without being pushed as the doorman guided them toward the main exit with a flashlight.
After showing supporting surveillance footage, the Hubbard Inn continued with Reel’s description of the so-called “incident.”
“It was the craziest experience I’ve ever had,” he said. “It was completely and utterly ridiculous how much it escalated.”
Although the footage showed Reel and her friend leaving through the front door, the TikToker claimed through her lawyers that the restaurant’s surveillance did not capture the entire interaction.
Reel alleged that the bouncer grabbed her arm and ‘manhandled’ her outside the bathroom, before the restaurant produced surveillance footage showing her walking past the security guard without him touching her.
Reel’s accusations about being pushed down the stairs were mocked on social media after the restaurant showed footage of her calmly walking down the stairs and leaving.
The TikToker maintained her version of events and stated through her lawyers that the restaurant’s surveillance did not capture the entire interaction.
The Hubbard Inn said Reel’s TikTok sparked a wave of negative reviews and hateful messages directed at staff.
In Reel’s original lawsuit, she accused the restaurant and the bouncer, who is not named, of assault, infliction of emotional distress, defamation and false light, the report reports. Chicago Sun Times.
On Wednesday, Cook County Judge Patrick Sherlock dismissed six of the seven claims but allowed a single assault allegation against the restaurant to continue in court.
Sherlock dismissed some claims because the bouncer was not named and others due to a lack of evidence to support Reel’s accusations.
The judge wrote: “(Reel) has not presented any allegations leading to the conclusion that the doorman’s conduct was extreme and outrageous for which (Hubbard Inn) can be held liable.”
‘In no way did (Hubbard Inn) insult or call (Reel) a liar, as (Reel) alleges.’ Furthermore, although (Reel) claims that (Hubbard Inn) acted with actual malice, the statements made by (Hubbard Inn) do not support malicious intent but rather a means to remedy the harm that (Hubbard Inn) faced as a result of (Reel’s ) original TikTok video.’
Hubbard Inn’s own defamation suit against Reel was also allowed to continue in the ruling.
In his own statement after the ruling, Reel said through his attorney: “We are very pleased that the Court allowed the lawsuit to proceed, including the uncontested claim about harm done to Ms. Reel.”
‘We are also pleased that the Tribunal’s rules create an opportunity to review some of the other claims now or in the future.
‘As we all anticipate, this will be a long and difficult process, which will invariably go to the end. Mrs. Reel is primed and ready for battle against the Hubbard Inn.
