Hulu is not yet ready to leave the Republic of Gilead. Today, during the presentation of the Television Critics Association announced that it has been updated The maid's story for a fourth season.
Based on the 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood, it takes place in a world where the United States has fallen into a theocracy where women are deprived of their rights and forced into sexual slavery. The series has just packed its third season this week and in the last two seasons it is further removed from the original novel. Hulu did not say when the new season would debut.
The first and second seasons of the show drew some criticism that it was overwhelmingly focused on misery and torture, and this last season has shifted to focus more on the revolution against Gilead and the men who run it while June (Elisabeth Moss) works to save her daughter.
The show is also a hugely relevant drama and one huge critical hit for Hulu. That is an important point of pride for the service, which is faced with an attack from competitors such as Apple, Disney, NBCUniversal and WarnerMedia, all of which are launching their own streaming services that will come with their own slate of original content. Disney now fully owns Hulu and it seems that the parent company will invest in more original shows and use it to present new stories that do not necessarily fit in with the Disney + streaming service.
Hulu didn't say when the new season would debut, but fans of the series who can't wait can pick up Atwood & # 39; s sequel to the original novel, The willsin September.
