A San Francisco woman who went from a life of luxury to ending up on the streets allegedly threatening to kidnap and kill children was committed to psychiatric care while denying criminal charges against her.
Kim Andrews, 37, grew up in a $1.1 million house as the daughter of a famous scientific genius and was once an accomplished athlete.
But in recent years she has been on a downward spiral, which has seen her involved in a series of terrifying incidents in city parks, in which she is said to have terrorized mothers and their children.
Andrews became famous in several upscale San Francisco neighborhoods for wandering their streets, and several locals accused her of threatening to kidnap frightened children or even slit their throats.
At her first court appearance on Monday, her deputy public defense attorney, Tom McMahon, revealed that she had been committed for psychiatric treatment for the past 120 days, the science fiction chronicle information. She was hospitalized shortly after DailyMail.com revealed her shocking fall from grace.
She signed a guardianship agreement in November, and McMahon argued that incarceration could prevent Andrews from receiving the proper care she needs.
The charges center on an incident in July in which Andrews allegedly approached a mother and her 18-month-old son yelling, “You’re going to die,” while holding a lighter and a bottle of Lysol.
The court heard Andrews had developed a “fixation” on the boy.
Kim Ann Andrews, 36, has become famous in San Francisco and parents report terrifying incidents in which she threatens to kill their children. He has pleaded not guilty to criminal charges and has been receiving psychiatric care.
“It’s hard to imagine anything more threatening…the reports are horrific,” said San Francisco Superior Court Judge Kenneth Wine.
He called Andrews “a danger to the public” and said his behavior was “extraordinarily threatening.”
The court appearance is not Andrews’ first brush with the law. The former high school track competitor has faced criminal charges ranging from assault and robbery to shoplifting and criminal threats.
But San Francisco residents say nothing has been done to stop Andrews’ aggressive behavior as he tours jails and courts before returning to the streets.
They have since banded together to encourage others to call 911 to report any bullying of children, with the complaints dating back to the last four years.
Yelena Dunduchenko said she met Andrews in 2020, while she was working as a nanny.
“She started screaming and saying, ‘I’m going to take away your son, I’m going to kill you,'” he said. “It was really scary.”
Local Megan Grasser said Andrews’ antics even led her to leave San Francisco.
Andrews was an accomplished track and field competitor at Torrey Pines High School near San Diego and is the daughter of an acclaimed computer scientist.
Parents have reported terrifying encounters with Andrews over the past four years and have even posted leaflets warning about her.
Grasser said she first met Andrews when she was nine months pregnant in late 2020.
The second encounter occurred three months later, when Grasser realized Andrews was chasing her and her dog.
Andrews then let out a series of vile comments and formed his hand into the shape of a gun, put it to Grasser’s head and said, “I was sent here to kill you.”
Residents in the Cole Valley and Inner Sunset neighborhoods also noticed an increase in encounters with Andrews earlier this year.
Some have detailed their experiences, with one writing on reddit that Andrews typically approaches people who have “dogs or small children, asks them strange questions, and then becomes aggressive.”
Her situation is a far cry from the life she once knew as the daughter of a renowned computer scientist, the late Dr. Philip Andrews.
He grew up in Pennsylvania and Southern California, where he starred as an athlete at Torrey Pines High School near San Diego.
Andrews then ran track for two years at the University of California, San Diego, where she remained enrolled for nearly 10 years before dropping out in March 2015, never completing her degree in biochemistry and cell biology.
A disturbing Facebook post by Andrews in 2022 suggested that his father, the late supercomputer genius Professor Philip Andrews, was still alive. He died of a heart attack in 2011.
The former star athlete has racked up a string of criminal charges for robbery, assault and criminal threats.
Andrews grew up in a $1.1 million home outside San Diego with her siblings, who have since been forced to disown her.
His late father died of a heart attack in 2011 and he is survived by his wife Kathleen, Kim’s mother, who still lives in the family’s $1.1 million Ramona home.
Kim also has three brothers, but she posted a disturbing Facebook status in 2022, suggesting her father may not really be dead.
Her family has since stopped trying to contact Andrews, but insists they have made every effort to support her.
In August, Andrews’ sister, June Andrews, emailed San Francisco Mayor London Breed warning that she: “has been causing great distress to families…by targeting children.
Her brother Ben Andrews also told DailyMail.com that the family was forced to disown her.
