Huawei CEO Richard Yu confirmed at IFA 2018 that the company is still interested in the smartwatch market, even though it has not introduced a new piece of wristband for over a year and a half, and now we may have a clear picture of the name of the next watch.
The Watch on the Huawei 2 can be followed by the Watch X because the company has the name in Europe as a trademark.
According to a trademark application from the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office), the company mentioned the name "Watch X".
The offer was noticed by 91Mobiles, and it also says that it is "electronic devices that mainly consist of a wristwatch and also have a telephone".
When will it land?
This is no confirmation that the watch will be available soon. Companies often find different names for future use, so it is possible that a new device from the company is under development but is not yet ready to be sold under the Watch X name.
Yu said in his interview at IFA 2018 that the company wants to reconsider its smartwatches before releasing a new one and provides a major technical upgrade.
"We want to make bigger improvements and make the experience much better than today, that's my goal: we want to make the smartwatch more useful, intimate, more functional and with a much longer battery life."
On the other hand, Huawei may have worked behind the scenes and we will hear more about the device that we originally expected to be the Huawei Watch 3 in the coming months.
