Longtime ESPN personality and investigator Howie Schwab died due to “various health issues,” according to his friend Dick Vitale.
He was 63 years old.
Schwab rose to fame on the network behind his hit trivia show ‘Stump the Schwab,’ in which three contestants attempted to improve their encyclopedic knowledge of sports.
The show ran for 80 episodes between 2004 and 2006.
‘My God – just [received] word that my friend of several decades who helped me so much in my career @howieschwab passed by this morning,” Vitale, the legendary college basketball announcer. wrote in X. ‘I have just received the news from his beloved wife Suzie. WAKE UP!

He added in another post that Schwab, a native of Baldwin, New York, had recently visited his home and “felt good” when he was there.
Schwab had been active on social media on Wednesday, as tweeted about the Heat-Sixers play-in game.
And Bill Krackomberger, professional sports bettor and sports betting host, saying Saturday morning that he had received a text message from Schwab just five hours earlier.
“This was the kindest, most compassionate, most generous man I ever knew,” she said. ‘I was planning to spend time with him at his house in June. God bless my friend.
Veteran ESPN anchor Jonathan Coachman also relayed the news that Schwab had died.

Schwab is a 1982 graduate of St. John’s University and describes himself as a “proud alumnus” of the school.
As part of the company’s massive layoffs in 2013, Schwab was fired from his position at ESPN.
