Player Availability: Jasprit Bumrah to miss IPL 2023
Jasprit Bumrah going to miss an entire IPL season for the first time since its debut in 2013, which will keep fans waiting to see it and archer jofra tandem bowling for Mumbai. Bumrah’s irreplaceable skills will give Rohit Sharma a headache, and his fast bowling actions have been further depleted with jhye richardson also ruled out of IPL. Mumbai has yet to name replacements for the two rapids.
Apart from those two, the rest are available for selection, unless the South Africans Tristan Stubbs and Dewald Brevis are chosen for the Dutch ODIs, who clash with their first game. In that case, the duo will miss Mumbai’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2 and join the team on April 3, well before their home match against Chennai Super Kings on April 8.
What’s new with Mumbai this year
Mumbai will finally be able to release Archer, having bought him at the 2022 auction even though they knew he was unavailable for last year’s season. Also have cameron green as a replacement for Kieron Pollardwho is now Mumbai batting coach. They also bought the hard-hitting Vishnu Vinod, who hits 138.81 in T20s.
The not so good: Mumbai’s meager speed bowling stocks
It was widely said after the 2022 mega auction that Mumbai had built a team for IPL 2023, and now that 2023 is here, they miss Bumrah. His fast bowling stock looks awfully slim without him and Richardson, and currently includes Archer, Jason Behrendorff, fast Uttarakhand right arm Akash Madhwal, and versatile fast bowlers Green, Arjun Tendulkar, Ramandeep Singh, Arshad Khan and Duan. Jansen.
Mumbai also does not have a revolving tent once again. They’ve won titles without big-name spinners before, but with their pace resources depleted, the lack of experience in their spin department could be felt more acutely this season. They have player Piyush Chawla in the team, but he last played IPL in 2021, and that was also just one game for CSK.
The Good – Replacements for Pollard, Hardik
After losing both Hardik Pandya and Pollard in recent years, Mumbai has tried to replace them by bringing in Tim David, Brevis, Tilak Varma and now Green to maintain their low-mid tier power. Of that batch, David is the oldest at 24, giving Mumbai a solid core to build on for years to come.
Programming Insights: Can Mumbai win back the Wankhede?
Mumbai is famous for starting slow and being late for the playoffs. If it comes to that again, they play three of their last four games at their fortress, Wankhede Stadium, after alternating between away and home games for their first nine games.
They will also have to regain their grip on the fortress, where they lost two of four games last season, when all league games were played in Mumbai and Pune.
