How to watch YouTube on a Peloton bike or on a treadmill

The Peloton bike and treadmill come with custom software designed for you to stream live and on-demand lessons, view your training history, browse the community to add friends and, yes, even a video chat with start another user. But sometimes you want to cycle or run without the motivating instructors shouting off the screen while still keeping yourself busy for the duration.

Peloton prohibits users from modifying the bike to download other apps such as Hulu or Netflix. Some users have bypassed this by opening the Just Ride mode and watching a TV nearby or even hanging a tablet across the screen to stream their own shows. However, there is a simple solution that allows you to stream non-Peloton content on the device monitor itself. Hidden in a device setting is a mobile browser that users can activate and then use to access various websites, such as YouTube or Plex.

Before you try this, please note that if you try this, any Peloton warranty that you qualify for may become invalid if a site you visit crashes your monitor. The guarantee does not state that you cannot do this, but you could state that Peloton is eligible for streaming other than its classes such as "misuse."

If you are willing to take that risk, you can find the browser as follows:

  • Tap the settings button in the top right corner, near the time. This opens a drop-down menu that allows you to adjust things such as your WiFi, screen brightness, account information and more. The last item at the bottom of this menu is "Device Settings".
  • After selecting Device Settings, search for "About Tablet"

  • Select "Legal Information"
  • Select "System Webview Licenses"
  • A long list of licenses appears, along with links showing & # 39; license & # 39; and & # 39; home page & # 39; say. Tap one of the blue links with & # 39; homepage & # 39 ;.

After you have made this selection, the Android mobile web browser will open. You can then use this browser as a regular tablet and gain access to Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Plex, Vimeo or whatever you want to view while cycling or running on your tread. Please note that some restrictions apply, such as video players that are not supported by the Android browser. In this setting you also cannot see the statistics of your bike and treadmill and you will have to "feel" for the speed and resistance.

Peloton makes expensive equipment designed to provide training instructions, and not an all-inclusive entertainment machine. Again, keep in mind that you may invalidate your warranty. But if you have an older machine or are waiting for a next-generation monitor for an upgrade and you want to play in the meantime – or you just can't help adjusting your equipment – it might be worth trying. Your machine, your call. If you want to seriously stream videos & # 39; s from the Peloton monitor, go at your own risk.
