How to transform any fall outfit with a hat, and how to reshape a curved topper at home with steam

Hats are a great accessory for an autumn outfit.

Just about any style can show your personality, turn an ensemble from basic to bada** and cover up a bad hair day. To win. To win. To win.

This season, founder and chairman of hat brand Gigi PipGinger Parrish says sharply defined lines, subtle pops of color and accessories with hardware (gold details, pins, etc.) are trending in the category. Ginger reveals everything you need to know about hats, including how to store and reshape them.

This season, Ginger Parrish, founder and president of hat brand Gigi Pip, says that sharp lines, subtle pops of color and accessories with hardware (gold details, pins, etc.) are trending in the category.

Hats are unisex, they look great on everyone.

Uber-stylish celebrities such as Eric Benét, Ne-Yo and pro basketball player Serge Ibaka have recently used short-brimmed fedoras to complement their sleek suits.

While street style stars and TV presenters like Nieves Álvarez and Rachel Lindsay Abasolo have opted for statement-making toppers to complete their ensembles.

Many men and women feel intimidated at the prospect of wearing a hat. Think you can’t pull one? Think again!

Contrary to popular belief, it is actually very easy to incorporate any type of hat into a super cute look.

To get it right, you need to consider the outfit (keep clothes and accessories minimal), your hair length (style locks accordingly), and the season (no straw hats in winter!).

Unfortunately, hats can easily lose their shape if not stored properly.

When traveling, Ginger recommends wearing your headgear unless that is not possible.

Her top tips and tricks for packing a hat are:

· Roll or fold a sturdy piece of clothing (underwear, socks, tank tops) and tuck them into the crown of your hat to support it.

· Lay the hat flat on the bottom of your suitcase, right side up.

· Start packing around it so that nothing gets stuck on top of the crown.

· If that doesn’t work for you, take your hat on the plane and lay it flat on your suitcase in the overhead bin.

To determine the right size for you, 'use a fabric tape measure (or string),' Ginger advises

If your hat gets crushed in transit, don’t worry, you can mold it back into shape with a little steam.

“There are several ways you can steam a misshapen hat,” says Ginger.

The hatter recommends using whatever you have at your disposal, including an industrial steamer, a handheld steamer, a pot of boiling water, or even shower steam.

‘First steam the part of your hat that needs to be reshaped and make sure you feel the material soften.

Then use your hands to push out the dents or straighten the edge. Let the hat cool and you’re good to go!’

Fit is the most important style principle in all areas of fashion. Part of finding the right hat is finding the right size for your head.

Use ‘a tape measure (or rope) made of textiles’, Ginger advises.

‘Measure the distance around your head that goes through the center of the back of your head + the forehead just above the eyebrow. The tape should be flush with the ground.

‘The size of the hat is in cm. If you’re in between sizes, we recommend sizing up + adjusting your hat accordingly.’

Gigi Pip offers up to four size options and customizable styles.

Yesterday luxury milliner Eugenia Kim and Southern Charm star/jeweler Reagan Charleston released a limited edition capsule.

The Eugenia Kim x Reagan Charleston Collection offers five styles, including fedoras and wide-brimmed hats, adorned with Reagan Charleston’s bold ornate lapel pins (which are removable for multiple looks).

“I am delighted to be working with Eugenia Kim. I love the parallels between our stories — two women who shun their traditional career paths, one in medicine and the other in law, to pursue entrepreneurship and success in creative fashion endeavors,” Reagan said.

She adds: ‘Eugenia’s hats and my jewelry play the same role in styling, they both elevate and add the finishing touch to a look, giving that special quality, the icing on the cake of an ensemble.

Eugenia agrees, saying, “Our aesthetics work well together because we share a mutual love of ornamentation and clean style.

“We are both businesswomen offering the customer timeless pieces that can transcend a look or evoke a sense of empowerment.”
