High school yearbook photos are a rite of passage in many countries, but they’re often a bit embarrassing and not something most people want to post on social media.
But there’s good news if you hate your yearbook snapshots: Thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), you now have the chance to recreate them.
A new trend on social media is allowing users to reimagine their high school yearbook photos, but with a ’90s glam twist.
The AI generator is capable of transforming you into over 60 different people, so you can make your dream of being captain of the football team come true or see what you would be like as a preppy cheerleader.
Below we explain how to give your photos a retro treatment.
A new trend on social media allows users to reinvent their high school yearbook photos, but with a ’90s glam twist.
Several influencers and celebrities have joined the trend and shared their own AI-generated snapshots on social media.
Actress Kiki Palmer was the last to join in the fun and share their photos to Instagram with the caption ‘I don’t know, I feel like mine isn’t mine’ with laughing emojis.
One commenter joked: ‘Honey, that’s Nene Palmer,’ while another added: ‘The one with the stack of books and the hair done?! The girl had time to study and take a look!’
YouTuber James Charles also shared your AI-generated snapshotswith the legend ‘I’m afraid’.
One fan commented: ‘Why is he named Ross from Friends hahahahaha?’, and another joked: ‘WHY are the first three mouths like that?’
beauty guru Bretman Rock and YouTuber Hila Klein also joined the trend, with Hila writing ‘My mom finally sent me some old photos.’
Hila’s photos were so convincing that commenters wondered if they were real.
One user wrote: ‘ ???? Great slaughter. I’m obsessed with the first one.’
Meanwhile, another fan joked: ‘You really haven’t changed one bit!’
However, Bretman was less impressed with his result and captioned the footage: “Y’all I’m dying.” who are these people?
“As a girl, I can’t believe I paid twice for this, miss. AI can’t comprehend my beauty I guess lol… And why do they all look like how I imagined my sisters’ children would look as adults?”

If you want to participate yourself, you will need to download the AI photo editing app ‘Epik AI’.
It is available on both the App Store and Google Play Store and can be downloaded for free.
However, even though you can create some free AI images, for yearbook photos you’ll have to pay £3.99 for 24-hour delivery or £5.99 to get snaps in just two hours.
When you open the app, select the ‘AI Yearbook’ option and upload eight to 12 photos of yourself and select your gender.
It is important to note that the images must be clear and well lit; Try not to choose photos that are blurry or where you are too far from the camera.
The app also recommends including a variety of angles and facial expressions to get the most accurate result.
