A professional cleaner has revealed the easiest way to re-whiten dirt-stained sneakers – and it won’t take you any time.
Anita Birges, from Sydney, is a cleaning and organization expert and shared her frustration over stubborn stains and scuff marks on her family’s white sneakers.
She recently shared that by using three homemade ingredients you can give your beloved shoes new life.
Anita mixes 1/4 cup dishwashing liquid, 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide, and 1/4 cup baking soda into a paste, then uses an old toothbrush to scrub the shoes.
‘I’ve tried and tested many sneaker cleaning tricks over the years and this is by far the most effective I’ve seen to date!’ he said in a video.

While Anita prefers to use the Dawn brand, it is only available at Costco or Amazon in Australia.
Instead, you can replace it with the dishwashing liquid of your choice and the trick will work just the same.
“Remember to take off your laces before you start scrubbing,” he advised.
‘Be generous with the solution and rub the entire shoe, including the tongue. Dip the laces into the rest of the solution and let them soak for 45 minutes.
Place your sneakers in a delicates bag before putting them in the washing machine.
Then, Anita simply places the shoes and laces in a delicates bag and throws them in the washing machine for a 30-minute cycle.
‘Be sure to remove the inner soles when you put them in the washing machine, as sometimes the insoles are dyed and can run all over the shoe.
“Don’t put them in a dryer or in front of a heater when you’re done,” he warned. “Instead, put the shoes in the sun or let them air dry.”
Anita added: “The results will blow you away.”
Some others shared their own tricks for cleaning sneakers.
‘Tab dishwasher and on a regular cycle in the washing machine. Like new!’ said a mother.
‘I use fabric spray, it works every time! Even the white ones shine,” added another.
‘Wow! Those sneakers look amazing! This cleaning hack is a game changer,” wrote a third. ‘Thanks for sharing the recipe! I’ll definitely have to try this on my own sneakers.”
