Australians will be able to get their hands on a limited edition $2 coin to celebrate the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.

Woolworths and the Royal Australian Mint have teamed up to launch the collection in support of Australian athletes and para-athletes travelling to Paris later this month.

“The Mint is once again proud to honour the Australian Olympic and Paralympic teams with dedicated coins,” said Royal Australian Mint Chief Executive Leigh Gordon.

‘These memories will be treasured for years to come and serve as a reminder of the sense of pride and accomplishment we have in our athletes.’

Customers who pay with cash will have the chance to collect four limited edition $2 coins in their change when they shop at Woolworths from Wednesday.

One design will be released every two weeks for the next eight weeks.

Here’s what the four new coins will feature:

  • Community: A pillar of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) combined with the AOC logo
  • Allezaus:combining the popular European sports chant ‘Allez’, meaning ‘Let’s go’, with Australia’s Olympic mascot, the kangaroo, breakdancing in honour of the new sport at Paris 2024
  • Olympism:Encompassing the Olympic values ​​of excellence, friendship and respect, this coin features the word ‘Olympism’ and the official mascot of the Australian team – the Parisian boxing kangaroo.
  • Paralympic Games:introducing the team mascot, Lizzie the Frilled Neck Lizard, playing the Paralympic sport of Goalball.

Woolworths Group marketing director Andrew Hicks said the new coins would be an exciting way to show support during the Olympics.

“We have a long and proud partnership with the Royal Australian Mint to help our customers show their support for major sporting events and cultural milestones through coin collections,” Hicks said.

‘These limited edition coins are just one of the many ways that Woolworths, as the official fresh food partner of the Australian Olympic and Paralympic teams, is helping customers show their support for our athletes as they compete in Paris.’
