If you’ve ever grabbed a pint while watching football, only to spill your drink when your team scores, there may be a way to save your pennies before reaching for a new drink.
Brewing giant Heineken is launching the world’s first beer insurance scheme to protect football fans against unexpected spills – a sad inevitability, especially during the excitement of Euro 2024.
If your beer (and it doesn’t have to be a Heineken®) is spilled in a pub participating in the scheme, you will be able to claim a replacement in the form of a pint of Heineken or Heineken 0.0 for free under the new scheme called Heinecare.
Pubs from London, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle are taking part, and all it takes to claim your new pint is to scan a QR code on special coasters and posters that will be displayed at the venues.
Beer drinkers will be taken to the HeineCare homepage and, in exchange for basic information, will receive a voucher to show to bar staff to claim their replacement drink.

But if that wasn’t enough protection, the Dutch beer brand has also launched a special ‘Pint-cho’ that will keep you dry when spills occur.
Developed by Amsterdam-based rainwear brand Rainkiss, the pint-cho is a lightweight, beer-resistant poncho that protects fans from spilled beer.
And, if you’re not convinced by the practical features (the waterproof fabric made from 20 bottles and the hood with built-in visor), the pint-cho is available in two color combinations, Heineken® green and a white version inspired by the retro kit . .
Heineken marketing director Stephanie Dexter said; ‘This year we will keep fans of all nations dry; and we’ll make sure you don’t have to put up with disappointing half- or three-quarter pints because of the exciting antics on the pitch.’
Lucky sports fans will find pint-chos in participating pubs. You can also earn on social networks.
Pat Fitzsimons, owner of the Faltering Fallback pub in Finsbury Park, London, which is participating in the HeineCare Beer Insurance scheme, said: “We saw a lot of accidental spills in the pub on Sunday night, mainly when Jude headed into the England goal, and I’m I’m sure it will be the same on Thursday.
‘We are delighted to participate in the HeineCare programme. We are fully stocked and the bar staff are ready to bring out those replacement pints should there be any accidental spills. “England fans, we are ready for you.”
