Australian tennis star Alex De Minaur had six simple words for his girlfriend Katie Boulter following her heartbreaking second-round loss at Wimbledon: “One match doesn’t define your career.”
Boulter, 27, lost in dramatic fashion to compatriot Harriet Dart on Court One at the All England Club.
The 32nd seed squandered several match points in the third set, with fierce rival Dart breaking down in tears as Boulter led 6-2 in the final tiebreak.
Dart, 27, rallied to remarkably win eight of the final 10 points and advance to the third round after an incredible three-hour 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (10-8) victory.
“One game doesn’t define my career. That was the first thing he (De Minaur) said to me when I walked off the pitch,” a shattered Boulter told reporters after the match.
“He knows what he’s talking about. It’s not his first experience. He’s been through it all before and I’m lucky to have that support.”
Some fans online branded Dart’s on-court conduct “unsportsmanlike”, while another suggested it was a case of “crocodile tears” to desperately swing the momentum in his favour.
De Minaur watched the drama unfold in Boulter’s players’ area just 45 minutes after an impressive display against Spain’s Jaume Munar.

Earlier, de Minaur comfortably advanced to the third round in the men’s singles after a convincing 6-2, 6-2, 7-5 victory over Munar.
“It’s never easy to play in these conditions and close out a match,” said the world number 9.
‘I played great tennis’
He will next face Frenchman Lucas Pouille, world number 212, after Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis was injured in his match during the third set and had to retire.
If Sydneysider Minaur continues his impressive form, he could face second-placed Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.
