How Schröder helped ex-Warriors DiVincenzo get out of the crisis originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Dennis Schröder helped reshape the outlook of former Warriors guard Donte DiVincenzo after he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves on the eve of the NBA season.
DiVincenzo revealed in a exclusive interview with Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic who exchanged texts with Schröder earlier this season after the latter was traded to Golden State.
“He was easy with his words,” DiVincenzo told Krawczynski. “He said it’s difficult. You just have to go out and do it. No matter where you are, be yourself and do it. You look in the mirror and say, okay, the situation is the situation. Let’s let last year go. “This year is this year.”
DiVincenzo was a key component of the New York Knicks last season, helping the team reach the Eastern Conference playoffs. While he was expected to contribute again for the Knicks this season, he was part of the huge Karl-Anthony Towns trade two days before the start of training camp. His start to the season was difficult, as he struggled to adapt to a new team, but thanks to Schröder’s support, he is starting to look like his old self.
The 27-year-old spent a season with the warriors during the 2022-2023 NBA season before agreeing to a four-year, $50 million contract with the Knicks.
Schröder is still adjusting to Golden State since arriving in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. While he has shown brilliance at times, he and the Warriors are mired in a prolonged crisis of mediocrity.
At 16-15, Golden State is still in contention for a Western Conference playoff spot, but the margin for error is very small for the rest of the season. Hopefully, Schröder can channel DiVincenzo and stage his own comeback with his new team.
