Paul Hogan’s troubled grandson gave authorities a strange home address before going on the run from police, and got into a fight with a loved one that served as his get-out-of-jail-free card.

Jake Hogan, the drug-addicted grandson of Crocodile Dundee Starfailed to appear in a Sydney court on fresh drug and offence charges last Friday, prompting a magistrate to issue a warrant for his arrest.

The 33-year-old former labourer turned drug addict was arrested by police allegedly carrying a small amount of methamphetamine and home-burglary tools around midnight on July 26 in Glebe, an inner Sydney suburb.

When he was taken to the city’s police station and charged, Hogan gave his home address, which was that of a GP in the mid-west suburb of Sydenham. Hogan was granted bail.

But he failed to appear at Downing Central Court in Sydney – where he was at high risk of re-arrest – when summoned last week.

It’s been just three months since a tearful Jake was given a lifeline when his father fled New Zealand and volunteered to help him rebuild his life.

Todd Hogan, one of five children of comedy legend Paul and his first wife Pauline, flew in to support Jake as he served a community sentence for breaking into apartment blocks to feed his drug addiction and breaching a restraining order.

But an informed source told Daily Mail Australia that Jake quickly fell out with his father and abandoned the court-ordered rehabilitation plan.

Associate Magistrate Judge Sharon Freund had told Todd Hogan and Jake’s sister, Lara, at the last hearing in May that she was more inclined to release Jake from behind bars because of the family’s show of strength.

She said Todd Hogan’s agreement to return and live in Australia while his son served a community order was “huge”.

“He is a young man who needs some support. He has the opportunity to change his life,” said the judge.

She ordered Jake to attend rehab and counseling and to abstain from alcohol and drugs.

The judge gave him a stern warning that if he breached the conditions of his intensive correction order, he could go back to jail, “and nobody wants that.”

However, it now seems likely that he will go to jail, given the current charges against him for possession of 1.5 grams of methamphetamine and possession of breaking and entering instruments.

It is unclear where Jake may have been living with his father after his release, and whether Todd Hogan is still in Australia or may have subsequently returned to his family in New Zealand.

Todd married Jake’s mother Marie when Jake was a teenager, before an event that friends say deeply traumatised him. Marie suffered a “very sad” decline that led to her death from multiple sclerosis when Jake was 17 in 2006.

Following Marie’s death, Paul Hogan made his own trip from California (where he lived with his second wife, Linda Kozlowski, and their young son, Chance) to attend his daughter-in-law’s funeral.

Eventually, Todd remarried Jane, a registered nurse, and Jake remained in Sydney and seemed to lead a normal life, beginning a relationship with a young mother named Racheal Young.

Jake had some substance abuse issues, but when his relationship broke down and his hopes of having his own family disappeared, “he became severely addicted to drugs which completely took over his life,” Daily Mail Australia previously reported.

Jake had previously been convicted of several drug and trespassing charges and possession of tools, namely Trojan brand wire cutters, a black flashlight, Allen wrenches and an adjustable wrench.

After approving the arrest warrant last Friday, Magistrate Clare Farnan told the court she had found the latest alleged offences “proven” and that Hogan was due back in court on August 28.

Hogan faces up to two years in prison for the crimes.
