Renovations on the home of Karl Stefanovic and his wife Jasmine are officially underway.

The Today show co-host, 50, and his shoe designer wife, 40, are building a $4.5 million luxury mansion in Castlecrag, 9 kilometers north of Sydney’s central business district, after a major victory in court in March.

The couple has completely demolished an existing 1960s brick house to make way for a modern home. They purchased the property in 2021 for $3.2 million.

Photos captured this week show the once picturesque three-bedroom house turned into rubble.

An excavator remains on the property, while the backyard containing the gazebo and spa remains intact.

The project was actually underway last month: The roof was removed and several walls were torn down, while the house’s brick exterior remained.

Meanwhile, Karl and Jasmine left the property in July and the couple were seen removing small items from their family home.

Their plans for their new pad include four levels with five bedrooms and five bathrooms, a pool and a spa.

Other highlights of the proposed reconstruction include a patio, entertainment room and three-car garage.

In March, Karl and Jasmine finally gained approval from Willoughby City Council to move forward with their renovation after a long dispute over their original development application that lasted a year.

After a two-day hearing last year, the Land and Environment Court ruled in favor of the celebrity couple, the Daily Telegraph reported.

The decision came after Stefanovic first presented a DA to the council in March 2023.

Neighbors responded to the couple’s plans with a number of concerns including “loss of views” and glare from the solar panels.

The celebrity couple’s legal team stated that the renovation was “generally compliant” with planning laws set out by Willoughby Council.

However, it did not comply with floor plan space ratio controls consistent with local planning regulations.

The original application revealed that plans included creating 102 square meters of living space below ground level.

Originally built in the 1960s, the original house boasted views of Castlecrag’s northern escarpment and included a self-contained unit with a separate entrance and its own bathroom.

A design sketch shows that the finished property will feature a stunning contemporary design, spacious surroundings, French windows and an internal circular staircase.

It will also feature an elegant terrace for outdoor dining with adjacent stairs and a host of gorgeous architectural touches including high ceilings and sloping windows.

An extensive garden will also be included along the length of the house, which is the perfect place for Karl and his wife Jasmine to raise their four-year-old daughter Harper.

Melbourne-based architectural design firm Studio Kennon also shared a photo of the mock-up on social media, and Karl and Jasmine were quick to comment.

“Can we have it now?” Jasmine asked and Karl posted a love heart emoji.
