Brandon Smith has revealed how he plans to regain the respect of his Roosters teammates and NRL coach Trent Robinson after the hooker received a breach notice for missing a recent team meeting.

Smith, 28, also confirmed that he battled some mental demons as he dealt with the aftermath following the shocking 18-16 loss against the Cowboys at Allianz Stadium on June 2.

‘It’s definitely made me focus on what’s really important. Obviously they raped me for missing the meeting.

—First of all, it was foolish of me. I went out to have coffee with my wife…..and she doesn’t like me taking out the phone because I ignore her.

‘So I left my phone at home. The reason it’s my fault is because (as a player) you check your schedule before you go to sleep.

“I missed the meeting, that was the problem.”

The New Zealand international also told Graham he feared the Tricolors would sack him.

“It was a pretty epic couple of days. Fortunately everything was fine,’ she said.

“The boys were funny and made fun of me.”

Smith’s candid insight comes as teammate Luke Keary said missing a team meeting “isn’t good enough.”

“It’s pretty black and white,” he said. But these things happen sometimes.

‘People sleep late or something happens. It wasn’t good enough. We have dealt with it internally, which is how we want to keep it.

‘There are some rules here that have existed in this place for a long time. A lot of those older guys have set those standards. We all adhere to them.

‘Brandon is no different. When you don’t comply, they punish you.”
