A prison officer has been jailed for 11 months after she was twice caught trying to smuggle drugs to her “bad influence” boyfriend in jail.

Kassan Twitchin, 19, first attempted to smuggle cannabis into the privately run Clarence Correctional Centre, 130 kilometers northwest of Sydney, on October 15, 2023.

She had started working there when she was 18, bringing drugs for Zachary Ashcroft, with whom she had an “unpleasant relationship.”

But Twitchin was caught, fired by her employer Serco and charged with possession of a prohibited drug and carrying a prohibited drug/plant to a place of detention.

A little more than a month later, she was caught trying to smuggle a prescription opioid medication known as “bupe strips” into the prison. Sunday Telegraph reported.

Twitchin was recaptured, charged, and pleaded guilty to charges of “carrying listed/scheduled poison to place of detention and possession/attempt of prescribed restricted substance.”

On January 9, she was jailed for a minimum of 11 months in a local court.

Because she was a former prison guard, when she was sent to Silverwater Correctional Center in Sydney, Twitchin was in protective custody and locked alone in her cell most of the time.

He appealed his sentence, claiming that the conditions of his protective custody were “particularly onerous.”

On January 30, his case was heard in the New South Wales District Court and Judge Robert Newlinds found that Ashcroft had manipulated Twitchin.

The teenager’s family told the court they “hated” him.

“Mr Ashcroft has been, to say the least, a very bad influence on the offender,” Newlinds said.

“It seems pretty clear to me that he had some kind of psychological control over the attacker because of their relationship and convinced her that it was a good idea for her to do what she did.

“(The drug crimes were committed) in a very unsophisticated and I think amateurish manner, attempting unsuccessfully on both occasions to smuggle the drugs into the prison.”

Judge Newlinds resentenced Twitchin and ordered him to serve an intensive community corrections order for one year and not contact Ashcroft.

Twitchin, who has an Onlyfans channel, has posted about her inmate boyfriend and said she “can’t wait” until he is released in a few weeks.

“I love you and I miss you my love,” he said.

“Not being able to talk to you is absolutely heartbreaking and it’s breaking me down.”
